Hi, I’m Debbie (short for Deborah)—a fun, experienced teacher who loves helping kids grow as writers. I believe learning should be joyful and purposeful
.
I have a degree in Creative Writing from Eastern Oregon University and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Lesley University. I’ve spent over a decade as an English as a Second Language teacher and now teach full-time on Outschool while writing children's books.
Writing has been my passion since childhood. I never begged for candy or toys—just fresh notebooks and cool pens! That early love grew into a career. I’ve published two children’s books—A Walk in Town and A Holiday Stroll—which celebrate the beauty of diverse communities. My stories reflect my life: I’m a foster mom to refugee teens, and my husband is Japanese-American.
I create a warm, welcoming classroom where your child will feel safe, supported, and challenged. I love playing word games and building relationships with students—but I also set clear expectations. We aim for quality work, and I’ll help your child find their voice and grow in confidence as a writer.
Let’s make learning meaningful—and fun!
