레벨 Beginner - Intermediate

We will read Mr. Popper's Penguins in class, discuss in detail, covering vocabulary words, and complete some science research, as well!  We also will have activities each class that pertain to the book.
Students, who are able, will take turns reading aloud as we work our way through the book.  I will pause students as we come to vocabulary words to be sure all understand the definitions and ask questions throughout our reading to measure comprehension. 
We will always end our class with an activity that ties into what we have read that day.

Chapters 1 and 2

 We will read Chapters 1 and 2 aloud in class followed by vocabulary definitions and comprehension questions.  We will finish our class with creating a character map.

Chapters 3 and 4

 We will read Chapters 3 and 4 aloud in class followed by vocabulary definitions and comprehension questions.  We will finish our class with looking at pictures of penguins and drawing our own penguin.

Chapters 5 and 6

 We will read Chapters 5 and 6 aloud in class followed by vocabulary definitions and comprehension questions.  We will finish our class with research on penguins to answer the following questions:
What are penguins and where do they live?
What do most penguins eat? How much do they eat?
How many species of penguins are there?
What sounds do penguins make?
What are their mating habits? Do they nest?
How do they care for their young?
What does a penguin egg look like?

Chapters 7 and 8

 We will read Chapters 7 and 8 aloud in class followed by vocabulary definitions and comprehension questions.  We will finish our class with creating a nest for a penguin out of household supplies.
