Learners will learn the history of Ruy Lopez. Learners will be introduced to the idea of chess theory. Learners will be able to execute key lines of the Ruy Lopez. Learners will be able to play against the Ruy Lopez using the Berlin Defense or Arkhangelsk variation. Learners will understand how to study and add chess openings to their repertoire.
I've been playing chess for 20 years and teaching online for three. I have taught over 1000 students to play chess online. I believe chess is a tool for life and I focus on using chess to develop natural life and social skills for neurodiverse groups of learners in a natural, supportive, fun, and interest-based setting. Although these classes are ability-based, that is to ease match-making and reduce frustration for learners rather than due to a strict focus on skills progression.
Learners will need a notebook and pencil.
