In this STEM class, learners will be exposed to the engineering and design process (plan, create, test, improve) as they complete a STEM challenge. Challenge: Create a foil boat that will float and hold the most 'passengers' (objects). Materials: -5inx6in sheet of aluminum foil. You can bring 2 or 3 prepared sheets.* -Small objects such as pennies, buttons or large craft beads. You will need 50 or more. -Container filled half way with water. Learners can tell the steps of the engineering and design process. Learners will use problem solving to work through a challenge. Learners will collaborate with others as they solve an engineering challenge.
I am STEM certified by the state of Georgia and hold certification from the Buck Institute in PBL/STEM. I developed the STEM program at my local elementary school where I was the STEM Specials teacher for grades K-5. I lead Summer STEM camps at Georgia Tech University for students in grades 3-8.
