There are no live meetings for this course. Every week, the students will learn independently from original pre-recorded drawing demonstrations, additional drawing challenges, articles on character design, and discussion boards to post their pictures and comment on each other's work. 

During this course, learners will learn what is involved in the character creation process and practice their figure drawing skills. Learners interact through collaborating on artworks, participating in challenges, sharing positive critiques, and discussing their characters and how they would fit into the Star Wars Universe. Basic drawing skills will be helpful for this course. 

Each week, we will explore different parts that make up a character's look and personality. Students will be challenged to draw more difficult objects or develop their own character each week to demonstrate learning. Learners will be encouraged to apply what they have learned in different mediums such as crayons, markers, paints, colored pencils, oils pastels, etc. The course wraps up with students having several drawings of themself as a Star Wars character.

What Can I Expect in Class Every Week? Every week begins on Monday with an uploaded instructional video. The video will display the drawing instruction from the teacher and with an explanation of the character topic being discussed. Learners are encouraged to draw along with the video. 

After their drawings and character forms are completed, students will upload their drawings or discuss their character in the class discussion board for that week. They are also highly encouraged to comment on each other's pictures with a simple critique process (At least 1 praise for what they did well and 1 encouragement for what could be done differently next time). 

On Tuesdays, the weekly challenge is posted! Students will be able to use their favorite mediums to create the additional drawings from a picture reference or from their memory. The students will use their new skills and creativity to further develop their character. 

Here is how the weeks are broken down:

Week 1 – Introduction / Who am I?
•	Learners will brainstorm and complete a physical characteristics sheet for their character
•	Learners will draw a rough draft of their character.
•	Learners will practice creating a "skeleton" for drawing human-type figures using lines and basic shapes.
Week 2 – Where am I from? What am I like? / Backstory and Personality
•	Learners will brainstorm and developed a backstory for their character.
•	Learners will talk about their character's personality, occupation, likes and dislikes, etc.
•	Learners will draw their character in a specific "action stance" related to their personality. 
Week 3 – What's my style? / Clothing and Hairstyle
•	Learners will consider their backstory and personality when choosing the style of their outfits and hairstyles
•	Color Symbolism and Principles of Design will be practiced in the outfit designs.
Week 4 – What do I have? Weapons and Tools
•	Learners will research what tools their character would use given their backstory and occupation. 
•	Learners will practice drawing different tools and weapons such as lightsabers, droids, thermal detonators, masks, blasters, etc.
Week 5 – Here I am! / Final rendering of themselves
•	Learners will compile all new knowledge and previous drawing practices into a final picture of themselves.


How will I Interact With My Classmates?  Learners interact with one another through sharing their artworks/videos, commenting on each other's work, and challenging each other with harder drawings. Learners will discuss other characters in the Star Wars Universe and what their character profiles would look like. They will learn how to critique each other's work positively so that everyone can feel praised for their wins and encouraged to keep practicing! Personal artistic expression cannot be measured by ruler and rubrics, but they will learn to help each other see how their drawing communicates to the viewer. (Example: Does it look like the character you were trying to represent? If not, what could make it a closer resemblance?)

Teacher Support: I check my email and discussion board comments regularly throughout the days on Monday - Friday between the hours of 10 AM - 7 PM EST. I also will have a response time on Saturday and Sunday though it may be a little slower. If a student needs face-to-face support for their artwork or has questions, we will set up a personal time during the week to video chat in the classroom.
