As Space is becoming increasingly important in most countries around the world, especially given the amount of Space travel that has recently increased, it is more and more important for our children to know, at least basic knowledge about the Space around us, including all scientists have now learned about Black Holes & Exoplanets! Plus, most learners find this topic to be extremely interesting as their young minds get to explore the possibilities of Space: making it perfect for the explorer in all of us! Note: This class is a continuation of Space Mission: Astronomy, Astronauts & Exploration & that class is a prerequisite class for this one as we learn many facts about space & key terminology which will be utilized during this course as well. Schedule Outline: Week 1: Today, students will learn all about the number of moons surrounding Jupiter. Students will learn the names of the largest moons around Jupiter. Focus will be on naming the moons and getting familiar with them. We will zoom around the planet to learn about some smaller moons around Jupiter and get a feel for how this “mini-planetary system” works. Week 2: During this class, students will discover the Galilean Satellites. They will learn the names, topography, interesting facts and more about each of these, including which of these scientists believe could have water. Week 3: Today’s class will focus on the exploration humans have made to the moons around Jupiter, as well as what we have discovered. We will focus on learning the names of the unmanned spacecraft which have provided us with the wealth of knowledge and understanding we have about the numerous moons orbiting this planet. Week 4: Students will review the Moons around Jupiter with an exciting, interactive Review Game. Students are encouraged to help their classmates and remember the names & details of the moons of Jupiter. Week 5: During this class students will learn all about the number of moons surrounding Saturn. Students will learn the names of the largest moons around Saturn. Focus will be on naming the moons and getting familiar with them. We will zoom around the planet to learn about some smaller moons around Saturn and get a feel for how this interesting “mini-planetary system” works. Week 6: During this class, students will discover the largest moons around Saturn. They will learn the names, topography, interesting facts and more about each of these, including which of these scientists believe could carry water on them. Week 7: Today’s class will be full of excitement & wonderment as we spin around the rings of Saturn to learn about its smallest moons, and how we believe they work together to help sustain the magnificent ring system. Afterwards, we will review the Moons of both Saturn & Jupiter which could potentially host life. We will dive into the reasons why some scientists believe these natural satellites could be habitable. Week 8: We end our course today as we discuss why it is important to learn about the moons in our Solar System, and how their discovery might be helpful to humankind. Then we will play an amazing, interactive, and fun Review Game as a class. The teacher will use a variety of presentation & teaching tools, including videos, discussions, pictures, and interactive games, as we have fun learning all about the wonders of Space together. There will also be additional materials, notes, color pages, and activities the students can complete in the Outschool classroom, for those looking for supplemental materials. *Recommended (but not required) Prerequisite Course: Space Mission 1: Astronomy, Astronauts & Exploration
학습 목표
Students will name several moons of Jupiter & Saturn, identify those thought to have water, and therefore present an opportunity for life to exist. Learners will describe the largest moons & tell how each is unique.

Introducing the Moons of Jupiter
Our class blasts off to space with an introduction to the Moons of Jupiter and the different "families" of moons. We will become familiar with these families as we discuss some of the more well-known moons. Focus will be on naming the moons and getting familiar with them. We will zoom around the planet to learn about some smaller moons around Jupiter and get a feel for how this “mini-planetary system” works.

I have always had a love of space, from the moment my grandpa, an amateur astronomer, let me look through the 10-foot telescope he built all by himself, to watching shuttles & satellites lift into the sky, and watching some fall back to the earth. I have spotted some of the largest dust storms to hit Mars, and have enjoyed looking at the various craters on our Moon and seeing the rings around Saturn, all from my own backyard in Missouri & while using other telescopes my grandpa and I built together! I have never ceased my exploration and search, looking to the skies to watch for eclipses, comets, and so much more! My love of all things Space has only increased with time, and I feel it is the next great wave of the future! As a teacher with a Master’s Degree in Teaching & over 30 years of experience working with children of various ages, and more than 5 years teaching students about Space, as well as other Science-related subject-matter, I love sharing my knowledge with the next generation. My hope is to instill the awe-inspiring beauty the Unknown Universe holds, as well as encourage students to dream and believe! I hope to see you in class as we take to the Cosmos during this Amazing Space Mission!
