Students will gain a competent understanding of the notions of intersectionality, individuality, and characterization through the lens of Steven Universe. They will analyze elements of diversity, influencing factors of characters upon one another, and relationships between characters from an objective perspective

I have offered community-based courses for preteens and teens regarding gender and sexuality, and have a minor in Gender Studies. My focus in my academic thesis was interpretations of queer literature for young adults, and have extensive academic research experience in the field.

At the end of each class, a small writing prompt will be given to the students related to the day's lesson. Students are instructed to write a response with a minimum of two paragraphs. Citation is not necessary, but students should mention particular terms or topics from the class. The assignment will be due three days after it is assigned, so I can provide competent feedback for students before the next class.

Through the writing prompts provided each week, students will be offered an informal assessment in the form of feedback and notes on the student's writing response. At the end of the class, a more formal write-up connecting all of the student's contributions in the class will be provided, but not as a letter grade.
