Class Description In this engaging and supportive 30-minute class, students will practice communication skills, learn to read social cues, and explore strategies for making and maintaining friendships, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy. Through role-playing, interactive games, and guided discussions, learners will develop practical skills to navigate everyday social situations. The session will end with empowering positive affirmations to boost confidence and self-esteem. What Will Be Taught? Effective ways to communicate thoughts and feelings. Understanding and responding to social cues. Building and maintaining friendships. Regulating emotions during tricky situations. Advocating for personal needs politely and confidently. What Topics Will You Cover? Communication: Starting and maintaining conversations, listening skills, and turn-taking. Social Cues: Understanding facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice. Friendship Skills: Finding common interests, resolving conflicts, and showing empathy. Emotional Regulation: Managing frustration, rejection, and sensory overwhelm. Self-Advocacy: Asking for help, setting boundaries, and expressing needs. How is Your Class Structured? Welcome & Warm-Up (5 minutes): Role-Playing & Games (15 minutes): Act out real-life scenarios to practice communication, reading social cues, and handling emotions. Use games like "Guess the Feeling" (interpreting non-verbal cues) or "Social Bingo" to encourage participation. Discussion & Reflection (5 minutes): Guided discussion on what worked well during role-play and games. Positive Affirmations (5 minutes): End with a group activity where each student repeats affirmations like, “I am brave,” “I can make friends,” and “I am a great communicator.” How Will You Teach? Interactive Role-Playing: Students take on roles in relatable scenarios that focus on hypothetical scenarios, fictional characters, or situations from books, movies, or other media. Students can step into the shoes of these characters to explore different perspectives and practice social skills. By grounding the activity in fictional or generalized contexts, it ensures that the role-playing remains non-personal and focused on learning strategies and outcomes rather than sharing personal experiences. Games: Activities like charades, emotion guessing games, or social cues bingo to keep learning fun. Guided Discussions: Discussions will revolve around the stories being covered in class or through role-playing exercises. These activities will guide students in collaboratively analyzing how characters could have best handled various situations. This approach allows students to learn and develop problem-solving and communication skills without involving personal experiences. Slides or visual aids to illustrate body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. What’s Your Teaching Style? I focus on creating a positive, inclusive, and safe environment where students feel comfortable practicing new skills. I use a mix of structured activities and spontaneous discussions to make learning engaging and flexible for all learners. My approach is hands-on, encouraging active participation while celebrating every small step of progress. How Much Will Learners Get to Interact With You? Students will actively engage in: Role-Playing: Practicing scenarios with teacher guidance. Games: Direct participation and teacher-led facilitation. Discussions: Sharing their thoughts, ideas and feedback on the game/story etc Affirmations: Joining in group-positive statements led by the teacher. This interactive format ensures high engagement, individualized feedback, and plenty of opportunities for each student to contribute and grow. ***These classes are not intended to be a form of therapy or a substitute for any therapy or services a neurodiverse child may need. Instead, they provide a fun and engaging way for children to learn and practice interacting, socializing, and communicating with one another more effectively. The focus is on creating a positive and enjoyable environment for skill-building through guided activities and play.

교사 전문성 및 자격증
As a parent of a 15-year-old neurodiverse child, I know firsthand the ups and downs that come with raising a kid with unique needs. Over the last 12 years, I’ve worked with both the Department of Health and the Department of Education, helping families navigate evaluations and get services for kids with Autism, ADHD, speech delays, and social challenges.
I also have a degree in Early Childhood Education, and I’ve seen how schools sometimes struggle to meet the needs of neurodiverse kids. I know how tough it can be to get the right support, like ABA therapy, when you need it. This is why I’m excited to work with your child in this class, providing a nurturing and engaging environment to build skills that will serve them far beyond our sessions. My goal is to empower your child with tools for communication, confidence, and connection. I want every child to feel supported and celebrated for who they are, and I can’t wait to be part of their journey!
