n this class we will work on building our reading and math skills. Class includes standards based, grade level appropriate practice of literacy and math skills. Kindergarten: Learners practice phonics and phonemic awareness, read and write CVC words and numbers, practice sight words, play reading and math games, count, add and subtract objects up to 10 through story problems, and work on number sense. First grade: Learners practice phonics by reading and writing CVC, CVCE, and complex words and sentences. They practice sight words and read stories to practice reading fluency and comprehension. Math focuses on connecting the concrete learning (counting with objects) with the abstract symbols of number sentences. We practice skip counting and adding and subtracting numbers up to 20. Second Grade: We practice reading fluency and comprehension strategies, identifying text features and text evidence. We create and write our own sentences and stories. We practice adding and subtracting in double digits and connect the standard math algorithms to concrete terms to foster understanding. We connect to the learning through participation. Hello, I'm Ms. Heather! I live near the mountains in Idaho and I love reading, gardening, and hiking. But most of all, I love teaching and helping learners grow their skills and confidence!

* Certified K-8 Teacher
* Bachelor Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies
Experience:
* 2 years teaching ESL online
* 1 year teaching/assisting -1st grade
* 2 years supporting students in Kindergarten. (Standards-based small group and 1:1 teaching)
* 8 years supporting students in Special Education K-8
* 3 years homeschooling
* 20 years volunteering as a church youth leader
My Classes:
* Kindergarten Learning Circle - Fun reading, math and social time (offered as both a one-time class and a 1×week ongoing class). I teach 1-2 new letters/sounds each week in both formats.
* Just For You K-2nd Reading Tutoring - One -on-one class for beginning readers (Ongoing- choose 1× or 2× a week)
* Just For You ESL - One-on-one class for English language learners. (Ongoing - choose 1× or 2× a week).
* Number Bond Math classes- Various party-themed classes that introduce number bonds for addition and subtraction. (2 day class).
*Kindergarten Check In- 1:1 practice of Letters/ Phonics/ Writing learners first name (one time class).
* I Love Math! - Small group class ( 1-3 learners) -ongoing 1x per week class to practice kindergarten number sense, number writing, 2D and 3Dshapes, addition, subtraction, and much more.
