This course will cover the New Seven Wonders of the World. Students will learn the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the Wonders of the World including why a New list was created. Through a combination of lecture and discussion students will begin to understand why these lists of "World Wonders" were created and why they are important today. We will discuss other places that could be included and why these locations were selected. The New Wonders of the World List includes: The Great Wall of China Petra Christ the Redeemer Machu Picchu Chichen Itza Colosseum Taj Mahal. Through lecture and discussion, we will learn about each place, its culture, and historical impact. We will discuss its importance then and now, which we would most like to visit, and which we feel is the most important.

This course is part of my opening lecture in my college-level art history course. These locations are all covered in the scope of art history. In years of teaching, I have found having an introduction that covers cultures and locations from around the world opens students up to a global perspective. This list was created recently but includes things on four continents. Getting students to consider location, culture, reason, and importance of these places allows them to begin opening up to what makes art art. 리뷰
