주당 4+시간. There will be some in-class reading, but students will need to be able to read each novel in its allotted time of three weeks. Listening to an audiobook version is absolutely acceptable! The projects I provide are optional, so it's up to the student or to those in charge of a student's education to decide whether or not to engage in activities such as letter writing, music exploration, and art.
학습 평가
I am happy to provide letter grades when requested. Grades will be a combination of class participation, essays, and comments in the classroom for a general final grade. All essays are read and returned to learners with notes, helpful suggestions, and plenty of encouragement.

Embark on a transformative journey this summer by immersing yourself in the captivating world of Jane Austen. Join our 10-week semester reading course as we explore the timeless brilliance of Austen's novels, written by a bold woman ahead of her time. Inspired by the enthusiasm of passionate learners like you, this course promises an unforgettable experience filled with fun, insightful discussions, and engaging camaraderie. Whether you're a first-time participant or a returning student to my 'When Women Write' series, we can't wait to have you join in!

Discover the depth and charm of Austen's works as we delve into the following:

An Introduction to Jane Austen, the Regency Period, and the enduring appeal of her wit, prose, and themes.

We'll begin with 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 & 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, the first of Austen's published works. There will be plenty of Socratic discussion, exciting projects to enhance our understanding, and a lot of laughter along the way.

We'll immerse ourselves in the world of 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 & 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦 over the next three weeks. Uncover Austen's incisive social commentary while delighting in scenes from various film adaptations. Don't forget to bring some popcorn!

We'll conclude our semester of Austen with 𝘌𝘮𝘮𝘢, the quintessential novel of romantic misunderstandings. By now, we'll have become lovingly familiar with Jane Austen, and 𝘌𝘮𝘮𝘢 will feel like the sweetest icing on the cake!

Uncover the secrets behind Jane Austen's novels, which have captivated readers for over two hundred years. Is it her piercing satire, sparkling wit, or unforgettable characters? After our immersive ten weeks together, you'll have the discerning power to decide for yourself.

Our classroom thrives on active participation and vibrant discussions. Come prepared to share your thoughts on the stories, the chapters we explore, unfamiliar 18th-Century vocabulary, and engage in lively discourse about 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 & 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, and 𝘌𝘮𝘮𝘢. As graduate-level work, Jane Austen's works were a focus for me at The University of Oxford. These books remain at the top of my all-time favorites list, and I've been known to hide in my bedroom closet with my well-worn copy of 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦 and a chocolate bar . . . just one more chapter! As an author myself, I particularly enjoy studying the works and perspectives of other female authors.
