What will be taught? Students will learn about the rise of ancient Greek civilization and its significant contributions to philosophy, art, and governance. They will explore how these contributions shaped modern Western culture and why they remain relevant today. What topics will you cover? The class will cover key aspects of ancient Greek civilization, including: The development of Greek philosophy and its major thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. The influence of Greek art and architecture, with a focus on symmetry, balance, and beauty. The emergence of democracy in Athens and the broader concept of governance in Greek city-states. The spread of Greek culture during the Hellenistic Age and its long-lasting impact. How is your class structured? The class begins with an introductory video or lecture, followed by guided notes to help students focus on key concepts. It then moves to interactive discussions, short-answer reflections, and an engaging activity where students design their own Greek-inspired city-state. The class concludes with a synthesis of the content through writing assignments or creative projects. How will you teach? I will teach using a mix of direct instruction, multimedia (such as slides and video clips), and interactive activities. The lesson will include opportunities for students to reflect on the material through short-answer questions, engage in discussions, and apply what they’ve learned in a creative project. Each component builds on the previous one to reinforce key concepts. What's your teaching style? My teaching style is student-centered and interactive. I strive to engage students with a combination of hands-on activities, critical thinking exercises, and discussions. I encourage participation and creative thinking, and I use relatable examples to connect ancient concepts to modern life. My approach balances guided learning with opportunities for independent thought. How much will learners get to interact with you? Learners will interact with me frequently through a combination of lecture, video presentations, class discussions, and hands-on activities. We’ll engage in conversations about Greek philosophy, art, and governance, and I’ll guide students through their city-state creation activity. I’ll provide feedback during the interactive portions, answer questions, and facilitate discussions to deepen their understanding.
