I use the science of reading to teach your learner reading skills and comprehension strategies to improve reading at any level.

Using a systematic phonics approach similar,  to Orton-Gillingham, each lesson is personalized to your learner's abilities.  Together we work to fill in the knowledge gaps and move to becoming an independent reader.

Lessons will be individualized to each learner's needs.

Lessons include a mix of specific skills and direct and explicit instruction(phonics, decoding, syllable knowledge, prefixes, roots, stable suffixes, vocabulary, fluency, and/or comprehension).

Spelling: what strategies can you use to determine the correct English spelling of words?
Pronunciation/reading/decoding: how to pronounce and read new words
Fluency: how to read smoothly and naturally.
Comprehension: What does it all mean?
Summary: what details are important and what do you leave out?
Word Morphology: how does a prefix or suffix change a word?
Word Etymology: what language do English words come from, if not English? How can knowing this information help with reading, writing, and spelling?
 
I use a combination of a visual presentation using tiles, puzzles, games, and sentence work using a document camera to teach a lesson.  Some learners may read a short story shared through Zoom.
