Reading fluency involves complex skills such as phonological awareness, phoneme segmentation, blending, recognizing sight words, and isolation. These skills form a stepping stone for proficient reading, and addressing any learning blocks in these areas is pivotal to preventing future reading difficulties. - Phonemic Awareness I will identify and manipulate individual sounds in spoken words. I will blend sounds to form words and segment words into individual sounds.
- Phonics I will understand the relationship between letters and sounds. I will decode and spell words using common letter-sound patterns.
- Fluency I will read with accuracy, proper pace, and expression. I will recognize and read high-frequency words automatically.
- Spelling I will spell words correctly using phonics and spelling patterns.
