주당 2-4시간. 🎒 The homework tasks outlined below may initially appear demanding, but I assure you, it is designed to be manageable and engaging. Please take a moment to read this section carefully, and if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to me through private messaging here on Outschool. I am more than willing to accommodate individual teens' needs and abilities. 📋 Quick Weekly Work Overview: • 2 Assignments with questions. • 1 Section Review with questions. My approach to due dates is flexible, and tailored to each student. Every week, I encourage students to complete as much as they comfortably can, without feeling overwhelmed. I understand that each student has unique needs and abilities. 📆 Our live meetings are every Wednesday. Each week, students will have an exciting array of homework assignments to dive into: ■ Weekly Assignment Homework: Due by Monday at midnight. It's time for them to dive into their weekly assignments and unleash their learning & creativity! Each week, they'll dive into the assigned readings of the book. I'll post two thought-provoking assignments based on thebook, encouraging them to delve deep into the material. Due no later than Monday. 🤔 But here's the twist – their responses can go beyond traditional written answers. They should get ready to flex their creative muscles by creating charts, graphs, or even short essays to showcase their understanding. Sometimes they'll be asked to unleash their imagination and let it soar by crafting a slideshow video or a virtual poster using their free Canva account. I want to give my students the opportunity to let their creativity shine as they express themselves in unique ways! 👉 And that's not all – I'll be actively teaching and engaging with them by providing additional insights, and context, and even posing more questions based on their assignment answers. They will need to make sure to revisit their completed assignments to soak in the feedback and further enhance their understanding. This part is due before Tuesday. ■ Section Review Quiz: Due by Tuesday at midnight Every week, students will embark on an exhilarating journey through an open-book review quiz! This isn't just any mundane test; it's a vibrant tool designed to amplify the learning experience by delving deeper into the rich tapestry of knowledge within the text. No need to worry, it's not a test at all! 📅 To ensure a stress-free experience, assignments have staggered due dates. Both assignments are due on the 6th day of the week after our live meeting and the review quiz is due by the 7th day. This flexibility allows students to manage their workload at their own pace. Should a student ever feel overwhelmed or unable to complete all the tasks, please know that I am here to accommodate your needs. A private message is all it takes to make necessary adjustments. Students will also learn valuable self-motivation and time management skills through this process. 💻 During our live meetings, I'll guide them through the assignments, lead enriching discussions, and address any questions they may have. Remember, completing these assignments is crucial for their learning journey, but I understand that each student is unique. I'm here to support them every step of the way, offering personalized guidance and feedback tailored to their needs. Get ready to embark on an exciting learning adventure where their creativity, curiosity, and collaboration will thrive! In nearly every live meeting, we also engage in a fun Kahoot game just for review. I am always available and eager to assist every student during live meetings and throughout the week via private messaging. The extent of effort a student puts into the class directly impacts their learning experience. This class follows a condensed and accelerated schedule, with due dates designed to help students stay on track. ⭐ Nevertheless, I am open to adjusting due dates and workloads to accommodate each student's unique abilities and needs ⭐. This approach is known as differentiated instruction and assessment. If this applies to your student, please contact me via private direct message after the first week of the schedule. We can then have a productive conversation about what will work best for your student, ensuring maximum retention of the material and an enjoyable learning experience without stress or overload. I do not expect all students to complete every weekly assignment. The variety and choices are there to cater to individual preferences. To succeed in this class, students will need effective time management skills and a strong self-motivation to learn the material independently. Although I am always available for questions, guidance, and additional help through private messaging and one-on-one live video meetings, most of the class requires independent self-study. Learning to create a schedule and manage time effectively will be vital. 🚩 The use of ChatGPT Open AI or any other artificial intelligence programs to answer questions is strictly PROHIBITED! Students MUST use the videos, textbook, and any internet research by using your own words in all of their homework.
Assessment
📁 Even though I don't rely on standard assessments, tests, or quizzes, my approach is more akin to a "portfolio" system. I assess students on a weekly basis, taking into consideration the following criteria: 1. Amount of participation and thoroughness of sharing their thoughrs in our live video meetings, held once a week. 2. Active engagement with the weekly assignments, along with their responsiveness to my feedback on their answers. 3. Thoroughness and dedication demonstrated in their work and research in the assignments based on their needs and abilities plus their final project in the final week. 4. Open-book section review scores. 5. Overall engagement in the class as a whole. ✨ It's important to note that these assessments are tailored to each student's unique needs, abilities, challenges, and issues. Just as instruction is personalized, assessments are also individualized and crucial for the progress of each student. Let's collaborate to foster a positive and enriching learning experience for your teen. If you have any concerns or suggestions, feel free to share them with me via a private message through your Outschool Parent Account at any time throughout the course! Together, we can ensure a supportive and conducive environment for your teen's education.
Letter Grade
💯 For parents who wish to receive a grade and certificate for this class: I can issue a certificate of completion for this class along with a letter grade and one-half credit. You can easily copy, paste, and print the weekly schedule from the Class Description or Learning Outcomes sections to showcase your teenager's progress. As the class nears its end, simply send me a private message through your Outschool Parent Account to request the certificate of completion by the third day after our final meeting if you wish to have one. I refrain from providing grades during the class, but I encourage you to reach out privately for updates on your teen's progress as frequently as you'd like. I value and welcome ongoing parent engagement throughout the entire course. The cumulative grade at the conclusion of the class is determined by considering the following factors: 1. Amount of participation and thoroughness of sharing their thoughts in our live video meetings, held once a week. Feel free to connect with me at any time if you have questions or if you would like an update on your teen's academic journey. I believe that open communication is key to fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment. 🎓 The certificate of completion will include the student's first name, "Outschool," the course name, the course's end date, my full name and title as the Outschool teacher, half a credit (per certificate), and a final letter grade ranging from A to D-. It's worth noting that I don't fail any students, as I believe that everyone, regardless of their level of involvement, gains valuable knowledge from the class. It's important to note that these assessments are tailored to each student's unique needs, abilities, challenges, and issues. Just as instruction is personalized, assessments are also individualized and crucial for the progress of each student. A = Excellent B = Great C = Satisfactory D = Needs Improvement Let's work together to create a positive and enriching learning experience for your teen.

WELCOME! 🤗

🐷 NOTE: While it's not required, I do recommend taking my "Self-Paced: Reading & Studying "Animal Farm" by George Orwell for Teens" course, as it serves as a great prelude and introduction to the book "1984" and this class.

😎 We're not in school; we're OUTschool, and that makes all the difference! My classes are tailor-made for homeschooled teens and those pursuing learning beyond regular school hours. This course is somewhat accelerated and advanced, but I am very flexible and always willing to meet each individual teen's needs based on their abilities.

⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫

👁️ Step into the world of 1984, a year that's come and gone, but George Orwell's prophetic masterpiece from 1949 remains as pertinent as ever. This chilling classic, the epitome of a "negative utopia," takes you on a captivating journey through an entirely convincing, dystopian realm, from the very first sentence to the last four words. The grip it has on the collective imagination is unyielding, and its cautionary tale only grows more compelling with time. Brace yourselves for a class that's more than just a study of words; it's an exploration of the human spirit's fragility and resilience.

🌍 In 1984, the world is divided into three major powers: Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia, forever entangled in a web of war. Oceania, ruled by the Party, employs the thought police to unearth any hint of dissent, while the omnipresent Big Brother watches over all. Winston Smith, an obedient Oceania citizen, toils as a propaganda writer for the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history to suit the authoritarian government's narrative. However, when Winston falls in love with his coworker, Julia, they begin to question the very system they serve, placing their lives on the line. As they pursue their forbidden love, Winston plots a rebellion against the Party, yearning for the freedom to shape his own destiny. But Big Brother is unforgiving, and Room 101 awaits those who dare to resist. 😱

🥠 1984 is George Orwell's haunting prophecy, an enduring tale that has captivated generations with its terrifying vision of life under totalitarian rule. It delves deep into the annihilation of truth, individuality, and liberty, where those in power seek to control every aspect of life, from information to thought and memory. 🧠

In our class, we'll not only dissect this iconic book but also connect its themes to the real-life events of our past and present, making it a critical exploration of literature and society. This class is a fusion of English and Social Studies, combining the power of words with the context of history. 📝📜

🤐 Throughout the nine-week journey, we'll delve into "1984" section by section, unraveling its secrets and mysteries at a comfortable pace of 2 to 4 sections per week. By the end, you'll have covered three chapters, equipped with a deep understanding of Orwell's dystopian masterpiece. 📖

But it's not all about reading; our class is a dynamic blend of activities to keep things exciting. We'll create engaging Canva projects, from virtual posters to animated slideshows, and even write thought-provoking mini essays while adding captivating images. And for some extra fun, we'll dive into Kahoot games during our live meetings! 🎮

🗣️ Our journey begins with an introduction to me, the book, its author, and an overview of the class structure. As we progress, we'll have lively group discussions, allowing us to dissect the previous week's readings, lessons, and homework. Each live meeting will include a short lecture and guidance for the following week, all while addressing any questions that arise.

⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫

🗓️ In our first live meeting, I'll introduce myself, the subject, and provide background information. Students will then introduce themselves by giving their preferred name, the state they live in, why they chose to take this class, and a fun fact about themselves. We'll go over what the class involves such as the weekly assignments. I'll also introduce the first week's readings and provide guidance for the readings ahead.

🗓️ In subsequent live meetings, we'll have meaningful group discussions about the previous week's readings, lessons, and homework. I'll introduce the new week's chapters and homework. Questions are encouraged, and I'm here to provide answers and support. I teach by adding additional information and details during the discussion and by adding additional information and context to student's answers on their assignments.

✨️ Our thrilling weekly rendezvous via live meetings for 45 minutes after our initial meeting unfolds like this:

1.) 🤗🙋‍♂️ Welcome & Check-in

2.) 🗣💡Students share & exchange insights on newfound knowledge, intriguing discoveries, and crucial topics from the previous week's readings to spark discussions based on teacher discussion questions. Every student has a voice in my classes! The educator adds valuable input & additional information along the way.

3.) 💻📚 Anticipate the excitement as the educator unveils the upcoming week's captivating topic, chapters, and assignments, setting the stage for an enriching learning experience.

4.) 🚀🎮 Embrace the joy of learning through a spirited Kahoot session, reinforcing the week's lessons with a touch of friendly competition.

5.) 🤔✔️ Conclude with closing remarks, leaving room for questions, issues, problems, concerns & suggestions from students.

⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫

➡️ Your tuition covers not only the weekly live video meetings but also includes the weekly assignments, projects, and quizzes conducted weekly in our virtual classroom by your teen. This includes my detailed feedback and teachings based on each student's assignment answers and project answers. Additionally, it covers my weekly lesson planning, homework grading, research, short lectures, and active participation in assignments, projects, and quizzes, along with providing valuable feedback, additional content, guidance, and thought-provoking questions for your student's submitted work. I'm also committed to responding to both student and parent private messages within 36 hours seven days a week, offering private guidance, support, and assistance to students, and facilitating private, one-on-one live video meetings if requested by either students or parents. Rest assured that I'm personally engaged in the classroom, working tirelessly to support your teen's educational journey seven days a week throughout the entire course.

🔄 As a professional educator, I follow a modern approach to teaching, which has been thoroughly researched and proven effective. It's all about student engagement and participation. We use a "flipped classroom" model, where students read the assigned sections and chapters of the book, complete assignments first, and then they become the "teachers" during live meetings, sharing what they've learned, interesting insights, and important takeaways as I ask discussion questions. We are a community of learners, and I play the role of coach, guide, and mentor. The class discussion is dynamic, and we ask the right questions to make each moment a valuable learning experience. I teach by adding additional information and details during the discussion and by adding additional information and context to student's answers on their assignments.

🤗 This method aligns with the "open classroom" philosophy, emphasizing a collective journey toward a common goal: learning while having fun. We collectively dissect the assignments, analyze, and arrive at conclusions during our live meetings. Each session concludes with an introduction and guidance for the upcoming week.

As professional educators, we recognize the shift away from lengthy lectures in live meetings, recognizing that students benefit from interaction. We aim to be coaches, guides, and mentors, both individually and for the entire class. Strategic questioning during discussions facilitates meaningful conversations, creating valuable teaching moments.

🎒 Even though this is a nine-week class, we'll have ten live meetings. The extra meeting at the end of the course gives us a chance to wrap up our journey, answer questions, provide feedback, and serve as a "makeup" meeting in rare cases where a live meeting needs to be canceled.

💁‍♂️ Parents may need to assist their teens in setting up Canva accounts and guide them in creating slideshows, presentations, and photo collages and download and save them as a .MP4 files or .JPG files. These tools are user-friendly once learned. Detailed instructions can be found in the "Supply List." Please see the refund policy, learner attendance policy, and class rules for this class in the "Parental Guidance" section along with other important information.

⌛ This class requires very good time management skills and self-motivation as students will complete the coursework independently and asynchronously from me and from the live meetings. But don't worry—I'm always available through private messages to answer questions, provide guidance, give support, and offer them coaching. Your teen is never alone, and I respond promptly, even on weekends 7 days a week on the same day or by the next morning! If extra help is needed, I'm also available for private, one-on-one video meetings as needed in the Outschool Classroom, but am unable to do this every week. Just send a message 48 hours in advance to schedule.

🌟 Please continue to read all of the very important sections of this class listing for further details, notices, and information before you enroll your teen.

Our live meetings are scheduled for 45 minutes, but the duration may vary based on the number of students and their participation. Your teen's engagement is key! ⚠️ NOTICE: "1984" by George Orwell contains depictions of political torture, violence, and a limited sex scene. Additionally, the themes and content of the book may provoke debate, strong emotions, and controversy. These elements are integral to the book's purpose and message. Please be aware that the discussions arising from this book are intended to foster critical thinking and understanding. While "1984" does involve political themes, my approach is strictly educational and unbiased. The purpose of reading and discussing the book is to understand its historical context, its literary significance, how it applies to the dynamics of our political & social world today, and the ways it prompts us to think critically about concepts such as freedom, power, and truth. "1984" is a seminal work that explores themes of surveillance, totalitarianism, and the manipulation of truth. It serves as a powerful tool for understanding the importance of critical thinking and vigilance in a democratic society. By reading "1984," students gain valuable insights into how literature can reflect and influence societal values and norms. It also helps them develop analytical skills and a deeper awareness of the world around them. Although this will sometimes spark healthy discussions and debates in the live meetings. I encourage students to form their own interpretations and engage in respectful discussions, learning to appreciate multiple perspectives. My role is to facilitate these discussions as impartially as possible. If you have any concerns about the material, please feel free to reach out to discuss them further. Your teen's comfort and education are my top priorities. 📋 MY CLASS RULES 1. It’s your responsibility to keep me informed otherwise I will not know your late homework is waiting for me. Thanks! 10. 🚫🤖 The use of AI programs like ChatGPT for assignments is strictly PROHIBITED! Stick to your plan as much as possible, but remember to build in flexibility for unexpected events. It's always good to have a backup plan (Plan B) ready just in case. If you need help or have any concerns, just reach out, and we’ll work through it together! 😁 I’m here 7 days a week and typically respond the same day or by the next morning. It’s your responsibility to keep me informed. I am kind, understanding, and flexible for each student’s needs and abilities and am happy to make changes or adjustments to assignments as needed, talk to me about it via a private message. 💰 REGARDING TUITION: I understand that the tuition structure can sometimes be a bit confusing. Your tuition covers not only the weekly live video meetings but also includes the weekly assignments, projects, and quizzes conducted in our virtual classroom by your student. Additionally, it covers my weekly lesson planning, homework grading, research, active participation in assignments, projects, and quizzes, along with providing valuable feedback, additional content, guidance, and thought-provoking questions for your student's submitted work. I'm also committed to responding to both student and parent private messages within 24 hours, offering private guidance and assistance to students, and facilitating private, one-on-one live video meetings if requested by either students or parents. Rest assured that I'm personally engaged in the classroom, working tirelessly to support your teen's educational journey seven days a week throughout the entire course. In essence, the weekly "1x per week, 13 weeks" displayed below the total tuition on the class listing truly translates to "$19 per week" in my class. 🧑‍🏫 Teacher Expertise:

I have had the pleasure of teaching "1984" in my Social Studies classes for many years, it is one of two of my most favorite books to read and teach, and has a very important history lesson hidden within it. Not only do students learn in Social Studies, but they learn in Language Arts as well.

🍎 My Teaching Approach:

My journey in education has been enriched by a pursuit of knowledge, including several EDU college credits alongside my undergraduate degrees and a graduate degree in education. Informed by educational theories like constructivism, humanism, realism, idealism, and brain-based learning, I've honed my craft as a high school teacher, embracing the roles of guide, coach, and mentor.

I have adopted a contemporary teaching approach, one thoroughly examined by scholars and supported by compelling statistics. This approach has proven successful in traditional brick-and-mortar schools as well as in virtual educational settings. In my master's and doctoral programs in higher education, it is the cornerstone of our pedagogical philosophy.

In my virtual classroom, I employ a "flipped classroom" model. Here, students engage with assignments prior to our live meetings, where they become the "teachers," sharing their newfound knowledge, interests, and essential insights during the live meetings making it an "open classroom" model too. Students are encouraged to ask questions and make comments, fostering a dynamic and collaborative environment. I actively participate by offering additional information to each student's answers in their assignments along with context. I also participate in the live meetings doing the same thing and creating a shared learning experience.

This method aligns with the "open classroom" philosophy, emphasizing a collective journey toward a common goal: learning while having fun.

The courses I offer are academically advanced and accelerated. To succeed, students must cultivate strong time management skills and maintain a high level of motivation. I don't just teach the material through traditional homework, projects, and review quizzes. I also employ videos, instructional materials, and lively discussions during our live meetings. Moreover, I emphasize teaching students how to learn, encouraging independent research and resourcefulness.

When students present questions, I often guide them to explore answers through internet research, promoting critical thinking and resource evaluation. The same approach is applied when reviewing homework, as I ask supplementary questions that go beyond the textbook, encouraging further exploration.

Through these methods, I empower students not only to learn but to understand how to learn as responsible adults. They gain control over their education, a valuable skill if harnessed effectively.
