Lesson 1
Week 1: Compound Words: Example: windmill
In this lesson, we will learn about the rule that makes a compound word. While using a graphic organizer, we will divide a compound word so that has two syllables. We will complete two activities: sounding out compound words, reading sentences and spelling a compound word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce compound words. An examples: wind+mill = windmill

Lesson 2
Week 2: What is an Open and Closed Syllables? Examples: Me (open)/dot (closed)
This week's lesson will focus on that vowel sounds change (short or long sound) depending on if the syllable is open or closed. They will be introduced to vowel markings (breve and macron) Some examples: Me (open) and dot (closed)

Lesson 3
Week 3: Syllable Pattern VCCV: Example: rab/bit or nap/kin
In this lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to find the VCCV syllable pattern, learn about the rule on dividing a VCCV word so that has two syllables and the vowel sound is short in the first syllable. We will complete two activities: sounding out VCCV words, reading sentences and spelling a VCCV word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce VCCV words. Some examples: rab/bit or nap/kin

Week 4:Syllable Pattern (V/CV): Example: ro/bot
In this lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to find the V/CV syllable pattern, learn about the rule on dividing a V/CV word so that has two syllables and the vowel sound is long in the first syllable. We will complete two activities: sounding out V/CV words, reading sentences and spelling a V/CV word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce V/CV words. An example: ro/bot

Week 5: Syllable Pattern (VC/V): Example: sev/en
In this lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to find the VC/V syllable pattern, learn about the rule on dividing a VC/V word so that has two syllables and the vowel sound is short in the first syllable. We will complete two activities: sounding out VC/V words, reading sentences and spelling a VC/V word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce V/CV words. An example: sev/en

Week 6: Syllable Pattern ending in y:Example: sun/ny
In this lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to drag the constant before the y into the second syllable. The y sound changes into the long e sound. Also, they will learn the rule on dividing a syllable that ends with y word so that has two syllables. We will complete two activities: sounding out syllables that end with y words, reading sentences and spelling a word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce syllables that end with An example: sun/ny

Lesson 7
Week 7: Syllable Pattern ending in le: Example: ap/ple
In this lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to count back 3 letters and the rule on dividing a syllable that ends with le word so that has two syllables. We will complete two activities: sounding out syllables that ending with le words, reading sentences and spelling a word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce syllables that end with le words. An example: ap/ple
Learner will break up compound word by their small words.
Learners will identify between an open/closed syllable.
Learners will be introduced to vowel markings (breve/macron).
Learners will identify different syllable patterns (VCCV, V/CV, VC/V).
Learners with learn that vowel y sound changes in two syllable words.
Learners will learn how to divide syllables patterns. 
Learners will practice decoding, blend, spell, write and read two syllable words.


I have a master's degree in education (M.S. Ed).
I've received state certifications in Early Childhood Education (Birth-2) and Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) 
Over 20 years' experience in elementary education especially learners from ages 5-8. 
I have a Classroom Educator Level Certificate in Orton Gillingham Reading Approach to help learners with dyslexia however it can benefit all learners.

-The chat feature
