In this class we will work on practicing sounds and words for clearer pronunciation. I will endeavour to make this class relaxed and fun while working on making communication easier and less frustrating for your learner, by focussing on their letter and words sounds. As we progress, depending on your students needs, we will practice letter sounds, words, and creating full, clear sentences. Tools to help in making pronunciation clearer, such as looking at tongue placement, mouth movement and things like tongue twisters, may also be used. Your input is invaluable as well, and, if communicated far enough ahead of class time, I can incorporate specific sounds or words that you are working on at home. An EXAMPLE of a class schedule is as follows: (Again this can be revamped to meet your students specific needs. Specific sounds can be addressed by looking at words that start with these sounds, and words that have these sounds in the middle.) Lesson 1: Vowel Sounds: Short A and Long A Lesson 2: Vowel Sounds: Short E and Long E Lesson 3: Vowel Sounds: Short I and Long I Lesson 4: Vowel Sounds: Short O and Long O Lesson 5: Vowel Sounds: Short U and Long U Lesson 6: Vowel Sounds: The Long Vowel Sound oo/ue/ui/ou/ew Lesson 7: Vowel Sounds: The Short Vowel Sound of oo and oi/oy Lesson 8: Vowel Sounds: The Sounds of ow and aw Lesson 9: R-Controlled Vowel Sounds: er, ir, ur Lesson 10: R-Controlled Vowel Sounds: ar, or An example with specific dates is as follows: (these dates would coincide with when you sign up for the class and are just for an example.) Teaching language to students is fun and challenging (we have so many exceptions to the rule). Things such as letter names and sounds, consonant blends and digraphs, word recognition and blending, regular and irregular plurals, creating sentences using descriptive words, and so on, are rewarding to teach, because with all of these things comes growth in the ability to read, write and communicate.
I have always been fascinated by the uniqueness and diversity of animals. They are so many cool and interesting ones out there. Did you know that a blue whale’s tongue weighs more than the average elephant? Or that butterflies taste with their feet? I enjoy incorporating animals into my lessons when I can and hope to offer some classes soon on some specific animals.
I really enjoy working with kids and youth and feel privileged to have worked with them for over 25 years in various capacities including teaching in classroom settings, in community programs, in school assemblies, for homeschool organizations, at summer camps and retreats, at my church, and in online classrooms. Kids and youth are amazing people, each with their own likes, dislikes, personalities, skills, etc. It’s really is cool to meet each one and get to know them a little as we learn and grow.
Besides a love for teaching, I also love playing sports and games with my kids (especially basketball and dutch blitz), being creative with arts and crafts, and getting out in nature (beaches and mountains are both awesome!).
I look forward to meeting many amazing young people and hope to bring fun and excitement to the classroom as we learn and grow.리뷰
