Welcome to Drawing School...with a digital twist! We will use Procreate to work through basic principles of art. Line is one of the most basic elements of art that sets the foundation for art making. Teaching students about line is empowering because they learn how to start with simple lines and turn them into shapes and then eventually into advanced compositions. A subject that they may have thought to be too difficult to draw, such as a clipper ship, all of a sudden becomes doable. What an exciting experience as your students learn to "see" the world in a whole new way! We will explore great artists to see how they utilized line and pattern to enhance their works. Week One: Contour Lines Artist study homework Van Gogh Week Two: Hundertwasser Landscape Artist Study Homework Hundertwasser Week Three: Pattern Artist Study Homework Yayoi Kusama Week Four: Zentangle Dragon eye Artist Study Homework Takashi Murakami Week 5: Op Art Artist Study Homework Bridget Riley Week 6: Line art Portraits Artist Study Homework Damien Hirst When speaking about line with students it is important to look at how color changes our perceptions and our mood. A simple line can elicit excitement, sadness, tranquility and strength. Throughout the class we will explore what emotional response compositions and lines offer to the viewer of each piece of artwork. **This class assumes an understanding of Procreate! I will not be teaching the apps in this class, rather USING the apps to explore art concepts through the various mediums and methods they provide** If your student needs to learn how to use Procreate, please see my Intro series before enrolling in the "Drawing School" series!****

Procreate (or Procreate Pocket) is a drawing app that will be used for the Drawing Series classes. In terms of adhering to COPPA guidelines, Procreate and Pocket Procreate does not collect, use, or disclose personal information from children.
Procreate DOES NOT require and personal information as defined below:
It does NOT require:
First and last name;
A home or other physical address including street name and name of a city or town;
Online contact information;
A screen or user name that functions as online contact information;
A telephone number;
A Social Security number;
A persistent identifier that can be used to recognize a user over time and across different websites or online services;
A photograph, video, or audio file, where such file contains a child’s image or voice;
Geolocation information sufficient to identify street name and name of a city or town; or
Information concerning the child or the parents of that child that the operator collects online from the child and combines with an identifier described above.
This is an app that is purchased through the App store as a one time purchase with no additional communication or logging in to access. One purchased- no further contact is necessary nor account to access. .

This class will be held using digital devices -the iPad or iPhone Students can use a stylus or their finger. A working knowledge of the digital app is necessary for students - as the programs WILLNOT be taught. (Remember that my Intro series can introduce new learners to Procreate) If your student would like to join us on paper and pencil, with markers and paints - that is fine too!!!

I am a professional artist, children's book illustrator and stage artist- my works have been exhibited around the world. I love working with the next generation of artists, teaching them my trade and nurturing their talent in an encouraging environment. I love teaching art to creative young minds and have taught in my community for over 15 years! I have taught homeschool art classes from ages 5-18 and I have also had the privilege of teaching art at local preschools AND I have taught art at nursing homes and retirement communities. This has given me to chance to teach from ages 2-92! I love exploring creativity through the lens of "You can do it - and I can teach you how!" No matter a student's current ability, with proven visual aids and assistance, I can help my students reach their personal goals. If they have the passion to learn, they WILL improve their skills!
As a means to help my students, I am continually improving my own skills, I stay current by continually practicing my own art and learning new techniques, while working with my agent in licensing my artwork. I stay current in my field so that I can keep my students current on trends and methodology.
It is my joy to learn and to teach!
Please note:
*My classes cover a lot of material and are jam-packed full of information that deal with the nuts and bolts of the apps that I teach.
*My classes are fast-paced and full of information and practical applications.
*For most classes, uploads are required before class begins. Please check the classroom beforehand to ensure that all the files are loaded and ready to go in the Procreate gallery. We need every second of class time for instruction.
*I strongly encourage students to take my classes in order. There are many things to be learned in each class and each lesson builds on material presented in the previous classes.
*While I am teaching, I can not answer emails and try to honor my families time by keeping office hours of M-Fr 9-5 for communications.
One last note: It is better for your student to take my classes on two devices ---one to draw on and one to watch the Zoom class! If this is not an option, remember that the recordings will be available after class!! My classes are jam packed with information and tend to move quickly!
Your student CAN do this - I CAN teach them how!
