In this ongoing class, students will write a procedural paragraph. They will brainstorm the different steps, use transition words, and write a paragraph. Below is a breakdown of the class: ****** INTRODUCE THE TOPIC ****** At the beginning of the class, I will introduce the topic. Students will be writing steps on the given topic. ****** BRAINSTORM ****** I will model how to fill out the graphic organizer. Then, students will fill out their graphic organizer with their own ideas. Students will complete the organizer by: - Drawing a quick sketch of each step - Writing each step - Adding details to each step - Choosing a transition word for each step ****** USE TRANSITION WORDS ****** Students will use transition words for each step in their writing. I will provide students with a handout of different possible transition words. The transition word choices will include transitions for: - Beginning transition words - Ordinal transition words - Other sequence transition words - Ending transition words ****** WRITE A PARAGRAPH ****** Students will use their graphic organizer to write a paragraph. We will do the following steps during the writing stage. - MODEL: I will model how to write the paragraph. - INDEPENDENT WRITING TIME: Students will write their own paragraph. - CHECK-IN: I will check-in with each student.
