수업 소개

Students will learn in a one on one format where their needs and skills will drive the direction of the course.
Each week will be a progression at the student's own pace and style.

Students and parents can expect a tailored course of instruction that is responsive to each student's own strengths and needs. My teaching style is student centered, where what each student loves, what inspires them, and their own unique approach to learning is an important part of creating personalized lesson plans using a mixture of different methods, exercises, and approaches to learning. Students are challenged with new skills regularly, improving their ability as they master each new task.

In general I prefer to use the Suzuki method, but I also teach other curriculums, based on each student.
For beginners I recommend Suzuki Violin book 1. For Viola beginners, I also recommend Suzuki Volume 1 for Viola.
Suzuki moves quickly, and is engaging, using mostly pieces of music to teach specific skills, and skewing towards a more classical style of playing. This book is good for both beginners who have no experience, and students who have some prior experience with another course or method and want a little refresher.

If you and your student want a more personalized course of instruction, ask me about other methods or books I offer. I also am experienced in teaching Essential Elements, String Basics, Sound Innovations, and the Rubank Method. If you've prior experience, you can bring past music and books to your first lesson, so we can assess your playing level and determine what kind of curriculum would work for your needs.

Students will learn how to read music. Students will learn the basics of violin or viola playing including Bow control, Finger positioning, Tone and Pitch, and basic Music Theory and Notation. 

Students should arrive for class prepared with violin/viola, music book, and pencil, having practiced for the week.

Before the first lesson, students and parents may benefit from ensuring the violin is in good condition, with all 4 strings, and tuned. If this is not something you are knowledgeable about, but need to accomplish prior to the first lesson, you can message me for details, and I will gladly assist!

Each beginner student will be expected to buy a Suzuki Violin Volume 1 book, or Essential Elements book 1, both are under $10 on Amazon. If you'd like to choose which may fit your student best, we can discuss that during the initial lesson to determine best fit before buying the book, as both methods are very different and both are excellent choices
. 
Students who have previous experience studying violin may bring whatever material they've completed prior to determine their playing skill and needs. 

Students may be given access to Musicca, and noteflight via screen share. No accounts are required on these resources, but students can benefit from their own free noteflight accounts to create their own compositions. 

Students will also be given access to practice videos and tools on Youtube
