This is a re-posting of a class I have been teaching since last year. All Chinese levels and any questions regarding Mandarin learning are welcome. Given a normal student's attention span (7-12 years old 25 mins, 13-18 years old 45 mins), the length of each session is designed as 25 minutes to achieve high learning efficiency. This class will follow the curriculum that Chinese students learn in China, Fully Strengthen the Mandarin foundations as students in China do, and move onto more advanced stages in conversation, reading, essay writing, etc. And if a new student has learned Chinese previously, his/her classes will be customized to match their progress. And in my class, the learners' overall Chinese learning speed will be 3 to 12 times faster than in regular courses in China for per minute spent. During the last year, of all Chinese exams and quizzes taken by my students at school, the lowest score is 95/100. Students are expected to take notes on a ruled notebook to achieve the maximum boost. Please feel free to message me if your preferred time slots are not listed. To give my prospective students more choices, currently, I have 2 time slots open, however, I can only take 1-2 more students across all my classes (out of 45 students in total). Hi, I am Felix Ni, a native Chinese. I studied Chinese at a university in Shanghai before continuing my studies in the U.S. I graduated from Kansas State University with a Master's degree in Economics. And I finished a triple major (Instructional Design, Communication Design, Economics) with 3.7 GPA (with honor) at California State University, Chico in 5 years, where I was also awarded the highest award in research, and the highest academic award for international students along with other 15 academic awards.
I have taught advanced (400-level) undergraduate classes in universities and did research in two national think tanks. I also worked at a top Fortune 500 firm after grad school. From 2016 to 2021, I worked at Stanford University before joining Outschool. Since 2021, I have taught over 30,000 sessions to students worldwide, including royalty, Disney stars, and national athletes, etc.. I have been recognized as one of the top 10% most popular teachers on the platform since the recognition first started in Sep 2023. And a member of Outschool Outstanding Educator Group (top 1% of teachers are invited to join) since Sep 2023.
To apply my Chinese skills, I worked as a simultaneous interpreter at an elementary school in Northern California. I translated and audio-recorded the introductions of all exhibits for the California Museum in Sacramento, CA. And I translated the website for the American Language and Culture Center at California State University, Chico.
I specialize in one-on-one (or one-family) Chinese teaching. I offer homework tutoring from beginner to advanced levels, and courses to teach the students Chinese pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, and translation. As we all know, a typical Chinese learning course doesn't usually offer individualized personal sessions. Learners in my classes will be able to quickly improve their Chinese fluency, expand their vocabulary, and obtain a deeper and wider knowledge of Chinese culture and history.
I understand my focus on teaching ongoing one-on-one classes generates only 10% to 20% amount of 5-star reviews compared to teaching group classes, given my class size is 80% to 90% smaller. But what makes me happy and feel fulfilled is to bring real Concrete, Long-lasting Improvements to my students, and the best way to achieve that is through teaching private classes. During the last year, of all Chinese exams and quizzes taken by my students at school, the lowest score is 95/100.
In my leisure time, I enjoy learning and researching ancient Chinese and Egyptian languages, gravity theories, and invertebrate paleontology. Practicing Chinese calligraphy, collecting post-incunable astronomy books and invertebrate fossils from the early Paleozoic era.
