수업 소개

영어 수준 - 알 수 없음
미국 Kindergarten학년 - 3학년 학년
Fossils tell the story of life on earth millions of years ago. Paleontologists study fossils to learn about once-living plants and animals. We will learn how fossils were made millions of years ago. We will talk about what we can learn from fossils and how fossils are found. We will watch science videos. Then we will see real fossils from 520 million years ago through 100 million years ago.

We will make Dinosaur fossils during the second half of class. You will need playdough or oven-dry clay or clay or salt dough (recipe follows).
You will also need small plastic toys (dinosaurs if you have them) or leaves and sticks or pieces of pasta or anything your student may want to make a fossil of.

You can use playdough, but if you want a more permanent fossil you can make Salt Dough. The recipe is:

1 and 1/3 cup Regular Flour
1/3 cup table salt
1/2 cup water

1. Mix flour and salt in large mixing bowl.
2. Slowly add water until dough is soft but not sticky. (You may need less than 1/2 cup of water)
3. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes
4. Store for up to two days in a sealed container or plastic bag.

You will also need a couple of pieces of parchment paper or aluminum foil to work on.

See the printout for directions on how to bake the dough once the fossils have been made.
If using commercial Oven-Dry Clay, please follow the directions on the package to harden the fossil after the class.
학습 목표
Students will learn about fossils, when and where they have been discovered, what they are, how they are created, and what they have taught us.
