Students will prepare for college composition classes by learning the basics of rhetorical analysis, persuasion, and citing sources in MLA style. 

I was an English professor for 11 years. After receiving tenure and being promoted to Associate Professor of English, I decided to step away from higher education and become an independent educator and full-time writer. However, I never got burnt out on teaching composition! It is a wonderful and important subject! I have been teaching on Outschool since February 2020.

Most work will be conducted in class. From week to week, there may not be any outside classwork. However, students will be writing 3 essays, and these typically take a few hours to complete, outside of class time.

I am happy to provide an assessment that meets the needs of each participant. Please reach out to let me know what assessment you need. I will be providing written feedback to all students on their work, regardless of other assessment tools.

We will be using 88 Open Essays, which is a free, open-source reader: https://www.oercommons.org/courses/88-open-essays-a-reader-for-students-of-composition-rhetoric/view

Students will be expected to turn in their work via Google Docs. In order to protect students' account privacy, they will create a link that anyone can edit, and then post that link in the classroom. I will then leave comments in the Doc.
