Students will be taught how to read, understand, compare, & contrast poems and poets (and occasionally songs and songwriters) from different eras of poetry in this ongoing class. Each class meeting will consist of reading two poems. After reading each poem, we will: 1. discuss the historical context of the pair of poems. 2. go over a brief biography of the poets. 3. note the poetic devices used in each poem. 4. learn about the poetry movements featured in that day's class meeting. Students will learn how to analyze a poem thoroughly by looking at its historical context, the era/movement during which the poem was written, the writer of the poem, and the style in which it was written.
