During this one time class, we will read Pete the Cat - Valentine's Day is Cool by James Dean. The students will get to know each other, make story predictions, be introduced to new vocabulary words, and listen as the teacher reads the story aloud. During this story time the students will work on the following Reading and Literature standards: -Ask and answer questions about key details in a text. -Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. -Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson. -Identify characters, settings, and major events in a story. -Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges. -Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories. -Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.
Your child can bring any of his or her favorite art materials to class to create their own Valentine's Day card for someone they love. Suggested materials include: construction paper, scissors, glue, colored pencils, crayons, markers, stickers, ribbon, etc.
Please make sure if your child is using scissors for the craft activity that they are supervised and/or using the correct type of scissors for their age. For younger students, you can have them use safety scissors to practice cutting their paper or other materials.
