In this class, we will work on creating detailed, cohesive paragraphs every week. I will give the students a new writing prompt each week and explain how to write the different types of paragraphs based on our topic for the week. In the class video, I will model organized writing by giving the students examples of my own brainstorming and completed paragraphs. Week 1Lesson 1Descriptive Paragraphs and Topic SentencesStudents will learn how to write a clear descriptive paragraph with a strong topic sentence.Week 2Lesson 2Opinion Paragraphs and Supporting DetailsStudents will learn how to argue their point of view in an opinion paragraph. They will also learn how to make sure their detail sentences fit with their topic sentence.Week 3Lesson 3Expository Paragraphs and Unnecessary DetailsStudents will learn how to write a paragraph explaining a process or activity. They will also learn how to identify unnecessary details in their writing.Week 4Lesson 4Narrative Paragraphs and Transitional WordsStudents will learn how to write a paragraph that tells a brief story about an experience they've had. They will also learn how to use transitional words to create a more cohesive paragraph.Week 5Lesson 5Descriptive Paragraphs and Conclusion SentencesStudents will write a second descriptive paragraph with attention to their surrounds and their five senses. They will also learn how to write an effective conclusion sentence.Week 6Lesson 6Story Writing and SyntaxStudents will learn how to write an engaging story beginning. They will also learn how sentence structure and length affects the effectiveness of their writing.
Students will learn how to write strong, cohesive paragraphs by going through the writing process and ensuring that their details are relevant to their topic.
