US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
In this ongoing class we will explore a different master artist each week. We will talk briefly about the life of the artist, their work, and then students will create their own masterpiece inspired by the work of that artist. We will talk about color, composition, creativity, and also the proper use of materials and clean up. The students will be able to create their piece based on the artist that week, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. The class will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their art and be proud of what they create. No experience is needed, but some parental help could be needed if the student is younger. The supplies may vary slightly each week, but most of the time the supplies listed here will work. I will send an email if different supplies are needed well in advance of each class (usually it's just a matter of having a permanent black marker). Generally here are the supplies that you will need on hand every week. - A watercolor set - A brush (any size will do) - A cup with water to clean the brush - Set of crayons (or oil pastels) - Heavy white paper (watercolor paper is preferred but not completely necessary) - Table protection (newspaper, butcher paper etc). Here are artists we will be featuring for the next few weeks: Dec 28 - Jan 3: Painting based on the artist Mary Blair (American Disney artist) Jan 4 - 10: Painting based on the artist Wassily Kandinsky (Russian Modern Artist) Jan 11 - 17: Painting based on the artist Camille Pissarro (French Impressionist) Jan 18 - 24: Painting based on the artist Hokusai (Japanese Artist) Jan 25 - 31: Painting based on the artist Erin Hanson (American Impressionist) Feb 8 - 14: Painting based on the artist Jim Dine (American Modern Artist) Feb 15 - 21: Painting based on the artist David Hockney (British Pop Artist) Feb 22 - 28: Painting based on the artist Joan Miro (Spanish Artist) March 1 - 7: Painting based on the artist Keith Haring (American Pop Artist) March 8 - 14: Painting based on the artist Claude Monet (French Impressionist) March 15 - 21: Painting based on the artist Matthew Wong (Canadian Artist)

Parental Guidance
Parents are encouraged to be close by during the class to help their learner with the painting process to minimize spills (especially with electronics close by!) and to make sure their paints stay on the paper.

I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
