Welcome to 6th Grade Math! In this twice weekly ongoing class, we will get together to learn, practice, and discuss various topics covered in grade 6, and a bit from grade 7. My classroom is very friendly, engaging, and inclusive. If your learner prefers to observe, I will respect that. If they love to actively participate, that's great too! I will engage the class and will try to get each student involved at their own comfort level. *I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent learners as a teacher and a mom, and am happy to work with you/them to ensure that they have an enjoyable class experience.* We will start each class with a fun brain teaser, and then move on to an ice breaker/sharing time. Kids are welcome to share their pets, Lego creations, art projects, or something else about themselves if they wish. We will then move onto a short lesson on the current topic, and practice as a class. We will touch on math fundamentals such as simple multiplication and division, along with diving in a bit deeper with fractions, geometry, and algebra! I am an experienced, flexible teacher, and can make adjustments based on the needs of the class. If we are working on one step equations and everyone gets it, I'll add in some multi-step equations. KAHOOT AND GIMKIT GAMES We will play review games every week on Kahoot and Gimkit. I will share a clickable link in chat and you will simply type in the game code that I give you to join the game. These games are super fun and easy to learn. If you have a separate device like a phone or iPad, it would be helpful, but you can also use the same device you are using for Outschool. I like to remind everyone that it is just for fun and for practice. If your child prefers to use an anonymous name during the game to feel more comfortable, that is perfectly fine. HOMEWORK (OPTIONAL) I will provide a worksheet or handout after each class, and sometimes prior to class. These practice sheets are always optional. I am always available via email if a parent or learner has a question or needs support. My goal is to respond within 24 hours, but it will sometimes take a bit longer if it's over a weekend. **I am happy to check individual homework and provide feedback if the student shows their work, takes a picture of it, and sends it to me via email or posts in the classroom.** Summer 2024 Pre-Algebra Concepts Show What You Know Games FALL 2024 Week of September 9th: The Number System Week of September 16th : The Number System Week of September 23rd: Comparing Decimals, Fractions, and Percents Week of September 30th: Comparing Decimals, Fractions and Percents Week of October 7th: Comparing Decimals, Fractions and Percents Week of October 14th: Operations with Decimals Week of October 21st: Operations with Decimals Week of October 28th: Operations with Fractions and Mixed Numbers Week of November 4th: Operations with Fractions and Mixed Numbers Week of November 11th: Operations with Fractions and Mixed Numbers Week of November 18th: Percents - Real World Applications Week of November 25th: Percents - Real World Applications Week of December 2nd: Pre-Algebra Week of December 9th: Pre-Algebra Week of December 16th: Pre-Algebra WINTER/SPRING 2025 Week of January 6th: Pre-Algebra (squares and square roots) Week of January 13th: Pre-Algebra (cubes and cube roots) Week of January 20th: Pre-Algebra (prime factorization) Week of January 27th: Geometry and Measurement Week of February 3rd: Geometry and Measurement Week of February 10th: Geometry and Measurement Week of February 17th: Probability and Statistics Week of February 24th: Probability and Statistics Week of March 3rd: Probability and Statistics Week of March 10th: Order of Operations Week of March 17th: Order of Operations Week of March 24th: Order of Operations Week of March 31st: Algebraic Expressions Week of April 7th: Algebraic Expressions Week of April 21st: Equations and Inequalities Week of April 28th: Equations and Inequalities Week of May 5th: Operations with Fractions Week of May 12th: Operations with Fractions Week of May 19th: Word Problems Week of May 26th: Mixed Concepts Week of June 2nd: Mixed Concepts Week of June 9th: Mixed Concepts Week of June 16th: Pre-Algebra Concepts Week of June 23rd: Word Problems Week of July 8th: Mean, Median, Mode, Range Week of July 15th: Mean, Median, Mode, Range Week of July 29th: Order of Operations Week of Aug 5th: Order of Operations Please feel free to reach out with any questions you have, and I look forward to working with your learner this year!

Hello! My name is April Moser, and I am a former 6th grade classroom teacher, specializing in math. I live in Virginia, USA, near Washington, D.C.
In 2006 I earned a Masters Degree in Education, and went on to teach upper elementary school, focusing on math at all levels. Since having my own children, I have moved to online teaching, and have taught over 500 students online in the last few years!
I have always enjoyed math, and I have created a lot of classes that make learning math more exciting for the students. Each of our brains work differently, and that is the foundation on which I build my lessons. In class, if there are three ways to solve a problem, we will try them all! That way, your learner has a much better chance of understanding and grasping the concept.
We play Kahoot and Gimkit games to get the kids excited about reviewing concepts, and I am always available to answer questions when needed.
I look forward to meeting and working with your learner!
