The Kalmar Union falls apart, leading to The Swedish Empire. We will also discuss the Reformation and how it influenced the Nordic countries.

1700-1850s
The Swedish Empire collapsed, and Russia strengthened, influencing the Nordic countries. Napoleon changes the dynamic in the Nordic countries. Also, the beginning of industrialism

 Week 5
Lesson 9
1850-1920s
Horrible famine, poverty, and political and religious oppression in the Nordic countries lead to emigration to America. Socialism and labor unions change the Nordic countries. World War I brings about political tension and change. The women get the right to vote.

1920-1970s
The depression and growing nationalism influence the whole of Europe. What happened to the Nordic countries during World War II? Sweden is the only country that Nazi Germany doesn't occupy. After the war, there were social changes and new immigration from all over the world.
