▬▬▬▬▬▬ COURSE SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬▬
Jump into the past and relive the steps of ancestors from every walk of life. In this class, we will focus on five different animals and the different renditions of those animals through Greek, Hindu, Norse, Egyptian, Aztec, Navajo, and Celtic mythologies. We will discuss how these cultures have echos in our modern day society and how we are still influenced by some of the ideas from these ancient civilizations. Students will be able to compare and contrast the mythological creatures, gods, and stories and then discuss the main ideas from the myths.

Class 1: Horses in mythology. In our first meeting, we will learn about equine myths and legends. This class will cover four different takes on horses as seen through Greek, Norse, Celtic and Navajo mythologies.

Class 2: Dogs in Mythology. In class number two, we will be focusing on dogs from around the world. This class involves Egyptian, Greek, Navajo and Norse mythological stories and creatures based on man's best friend.

Class 3: Snakes in Mythology. In our third class, we will delve into serpents of four different cultures. This class will use Aztec, Hindu, Egyptian and Greek mythologies to examine how people from different continents viewed snakes in their customs and traditions.

Class 4: Birds in Mythology. In our fourth and penultimate class, we will explore the avian aspects of ancient civilizations. This class will touch upon how Greek, Celtic, Norse and Hindu mythologies see birds in relation to their lifestyle and beliefs.

Class 5: Cats in Mythology. In our last class together, we will end on feline folklore and myths. Our final course will deal in Cherokee/Native American, Egyptian, Hindu and Aztec mythology as looked at through the eyes of a cat.
**Note: If you have already taken or are thinking about taking my one-time class on the topic of cats in mythology, this will not be a repeat lesson. The cats and mythologies for this lesson are completely different! :)

Mythology and religion often share a very blurry line, so this discussion course may delve into the various different religions. The object of this class is to allow all students to express opinions, beliefs and ideas in a safe and welcome space. I will try to focus solely on the stories and leave the questions of truth and belief up to each student, allowing these expressions but firmly NOT allowing any sort of religious debate or talk of someone or something being "wrong"
수업 자료
Handouts, worksheets and printouts will be provided when needed, though are not necessary to take this course. These help the students stay engaged during class or practice what was learned after class ends.

I have spent 5 years studying various world mythologies via multiple facets; I have traveled all over the world, from Mexico's Chichén Itzá to the Greek Parthenon and many other places in between. I have taken university courses, sat in on lectures from historians and archaeologists, and researched both fact (scholarly articles / research papers) as well as modern day fiction built around the ideas found in myth and cultures from all corners of the globe. I continue to educate myself with modern research, literature and seminars whenever possible, all to further my interest in the stories I have studied from multiple cultures.
