This course on music theory serves as an ideal starting point for students who are new to playing music, facing challenges in reading musical notation, or seeking to deepen their understanding of music composition. No previous musical background is required.

Building a strong foundation at the beginning of your musical journey is essential for success.  Each topic covered in this course will build upon each other.  In this class, youwill explore the fundamental components of music theory: reading notation, such as music staves, clefs, rhythms, time signatures and note values,   all within an engaging online classroom setting. We will cover each element thoroughly and us various online websites  for a fun and exciting review (google forms, musictheory.net, nearpod, gimkit).

What you will accomplish:

1.  A firm understanding of music notation. 
2.  Identify note names and note values
3.  Identify rests and rest values
4.  Compose simple rhythms using knowledge attained in this class
5.  Compose simple melodies using knowledge attained in this class
6.  Read notes on the Grand Staff
7.  Identify barlines, double bar lines and measures
8. Begin development of ear training skills
