Welcome to the Moving Minds Book Club! Are you an avid reader looking for a dynamic and engaging way to dive deeper into the books you're reading? Join us for a weekly journey through the pages of Frindle by Andrew Clements, where each session offers an opportunity to discuss and dissect a new portion of the book.

A summary of Frindle by Andrew Clements from goodreads.com
"From bestselling and award-winning author Andrew Clements, a quirky, imaginative tale about creative thought and the power of words that will have readers inventing their own words.
Is Nick Allen a troublemaker? He really just likes to liven things up at school -- and he's always had plenty of great ideas. When Nick learns some interesting information about how words are created, suddenly he's got the inspiration for his best plan ever...the frindle. Who says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a frindle? Things begin innocently enough as Nick gets his friends to use the new word. Then other people in town start saying frindle. Soon the school is in an uproar, and Nick has become a local hero. His teacher wants Nick to put an end to all this nonsense, but the funny thing is frindle doesn't belong to Nick anymore. The new word is spreading across the country, and there's nothing Nick can do to stop it."

Each week, you'll be in charge of reading 2-3 chapters outside of class to be ready to discuss and analyze together! Whether you're new to talking about books you're enjoying or love to give detailed descriptions after every read, this class is for you. Although our discussions are student-led, I will be there to ensure our environment is safe for everyone and provide thought-provoking guidance for our conversations.

Our schedule would look like this:
Week 1: Meet and Greet! We will get to know the members of our book club, establish rules that suit the group, and develop goals for our time together. You are not expected to start reading your book before this class but you are expected to have it! AFTER this class, read chapters 1, 2 and 3 (16 pages) before the next class.
Week 2: Discuss Chapters 1, 2, and 3. Read chapters 4 and 5 (16 pages) before the next class.
Week 3: Discuss Chapters 4 and 5. Read chapters 6, 7, and 8 (16 pages) before the next class.
Week 4: Discuss Chapters 6, 7, and 8. Read chapters 9 and 10 (18 pages) before the next class.
Week 5: Discuss Chapters 9 and 10. Read chapters 11 and 12 (17 pages) before the next class.
Week 6: Discuss Chapters 11 and 12. Read chapters 13, 14, and 15 (22 pages) before the next class.
Week 7: Discuss Chapters 13, 14, and 15 and the overall opinion of the book!

Welcome! My name is Bayley and I’m so glad you’re here!

I am passionate about teaching because for me, being an educator is not just a profession; it's a true calling that fills me with joy and purpose. As a teacher, my goal is to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of my students. I firmly believe that education is a transformative force that empowers individuals to reach their fullest potential. Guided by this belief, I strive to create a learning environment that fosters growth, curiosity, and a love for learning.

My teaching philosophy centers around equipping students with the tools they need to become lifelong learners. I place a strong emphasis on cultivating independent thinking and problem-solving skills, empowering students to expand on their knowledge and create innovative solutions. I am particularly passionate about children's literacy and recognize that being a skilled reader and critical thinker lays the foundation for lifelong learning.

My experience in education ranges from preschool to high school in various subjects through traditional classroom settings and private tutoring, online and in-person. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University's College of Education and Human Development.

You will find a little bit of everything in my courses! Whether they focus on reading, science, math, or other subjects, I provide a safe and nurturing space where learners can take risks, be challenged, and develop the knowledge and skills they need to excel. I am dedicated to creating engaging and interactive lessons that cater to diverse learning styles, ensuring that every student feels seen, valued, and supported.

In addition to group classes, I also offer individual tutoring to provide personalized support to students who need it for any reason. This can include homework help, lessons over a specific topic, assistance in filling gaps in learning, enrichment, or test prep and study skills. If you're interested in this and don't see a desired time listed, please don't hesitate to reach out to me so we can find a schedule that works for both of us.

I am thrilled to be a part of your child’s educational journey. Thank you for being here!
