몬테소리 수학 시간: 소수 분수 보드 소개

In this multi day class, learners will have the opportunity to be introduced to the decimal fraction board. We will show through demonstration the values that are represented on this Montessori math material. The direct aim for these classes is to be able to form and read decimal numbers using horizontal number symbol cards placed on the board.

We will be using hands-on materials to help your learners gain a deeper understanding of different kinds of decimal numbers. Students will have the opportunity to see and use Montessori materials in a concrete way to practice these skills.
 Before instruction begins, we’ll take a few minutes to do introductions, a brief icebreaker and review some simple class rules. Then the fun begins! 

For these presentations, there are three levels for forming numbers on the decimal fraction board. Each of these levels is described below.

Meeting 1, Level 1: the teacher will be  forming numerals on the decimal fraction board, and the learner reads it. (0.27, twenty seven hundredths) 

Meeting 2, Level 2: the teacher will be stating numbers, and the child will form the numeral on the decimal fraction board (please show me two thousandths, which is .002)

Meeting 3, Level 3:  the teacher will ask the learner  to form a quantity on the decimal fraction board and then read it. ( please show and read five tenths) 

Within each level, learners will be able to complete several tasks with guidance from me. Here are some of the exercises for forming numbers with the symbol cards. 

Form a whole number comprised of two hierarchies ( 35) 
Form a decimal number with two adjacent hierarchies (0.21)
Form a whole number +2 adjacent decimals (2.45)
Form a whole number, and a decimal number with zero (2.405) 
Form a number with the zero in the whole and decimal number (305.405) 

As an extension to this presentation, learners will be able to make a decimal candelabrum with multicolored flames using digital printable resources that will be provided to them before class. This creation will show that all “candles“ give light, but the light is dimmer on the right, as we move to a lower value. This appealing and colorful illustration represents the range of large whole numbers to very small decimals. 

In order for learners to enroll in this course, they should be able to identify and say numbers from the millions  to the millionths, build a variety of numbers, and write larger numbers correctly.
