몬테소리 수학: 고급 덧셈 및 뺄셈 사실

In this month-long course, we will continue to build on skills in each class and topics will be gradually introduced as mastery is achieved. Students will move towards memorization of the addition and subtraction facts through the use of Montessori Control Charts. This is the third course in the series. Learners should already have a solid grasp of the addition and subtraction facts and should be comfortable answering the fact problems without needing manipulatives.

Learning basic addition and subtraction facts is an important skill in beginning math. Learners gain proficiency in addition and subtraction at first, by using physical objects to understand the how the operation works, and later internalizing the sums and differences in a way that makes recall quick and easy.

I will use props, flash cards, white boards or chalkboards, and a shared writing screen in class. I'm expressive and I encourage enthusiastic participation. Learners should have something to write with in class. They can use a small white board with a marker, small chalkboard with chalk, or paper with pencil. I will also upload printable charts and cards. Learners are encouraged to bring these with them to class. 

Week 1: Addition control charts 3 and 4
              In the first week, we will use addition control chart 3 to check our predicted answers from various silly story 
              problems. We will then examine addition control chart 4 and learn about parentheses and multiple addends.
Week 2: Addition control charts 5 and 6 
             In the second week, addition control charts 5 and 6 will be introduced. These charts have increasingly less information on 
             them, highlighting the finite nature of the possible sums in the addition facts. We will play an interactive game of rolling 
             10 sided dice to have random addition problems to solve together. In the second meeting, we will fill in a blank version 
             of chart 3 by playing Bingo! 
Week 3: Subtraction control charts 2 and 3
             In the third week, we will use the subtraction control chart 2 to check our predicted answers from various silly story 
             problems. We will then examine subtraction control chart 3 and use it to play subtraction Bingo! 
Week 4: Extensions for addition and subtraction
            In the fourth week, we will use a balance scale and small blocks or Legos to figure out missing addend problems. We will 
            then learn about negative numbers using a version of the subtraction snake game.
