In this 8-week course, your child will dive into a world of mindfulness, social-emotional learning (SEL), and movement to help them develop important life skills! Each week, we'll explore how to better understand and manage feelings, build focus, and develop resilience, all while having fun.

Class Experience:

Every class is designed to keep kids engaged and actively participating. Each week, we’ll begin with a short mindfulness practice to help everyone center and calm their minds. Then, we’ll dive into a series of activities that blend SEL skills and movement games. Topics covered will include:

1. Mindfulness and Breathing: Techniques to calm the mind and reduce stress.

2. Understanding Emotions: Identifying and naming feelings and learning healthy ways to express them.

3. Building Resilience: Coping strategies for dealing with challenges.

4. Focus and Self-Regulation: Fun movement exercises that help improve focus and self-control.

5. Building Self-Confidence: Activities to celebrate strengths and growth.

The class will be highly interactive with plenty of opportunities for your child to participate, ask questions, and share their thoughts. They’ll engage in hands-on activities, such as breathing exercises, simple yoga poses, role-playing, and fun games that help practice what they’ve learned. We'll also incorporate visual aids, slides, and short video clips to explain concepts in an easy-to-understand way.

My teaching style is warm, engaging, and supportive, creating a safe space for students to share and grow. I use a blend of interactive discussion, movement activities, and guided reflection to help students learn in a way that feels natural and fun. Each child will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me during class and with their peers, ensuring they feel heard and supported.

This class is perfect for kids who want to improve their emotional skills, focus, and overall well-being in a positive and supportive environment.

Lesson 1: What is Mindfulness?
 Introduction to mindfulness: What it is, why it matters, and how it helps us stay present. Students will learn the basics of mindfulness and practice a short breathing exercise to start calming the mind.

 Exploration of different emotions and how they affect our thoughts and actions. Students will use an "Emotion Wheel" activity to identify and name different feelings and discuss why it's important to understand them.

 An introduction to self-regulation: learning how to manage feelings and actions in different situations. Students will practice a simple breathing technique to stay calm when faced with stress.

 Students will learn and practice mindfulness strategies for managing stress, such as mindful breathing and body awareness. They will also engage in a movement game that encourages self-regulation and impulse control.

Notebook or Journal – For reflecting on activities, journaling thoughts, and recording progress (Approx. $1-$5, if not already available).

Pen or Pencil – To take notes and complete activities (Common household item).

Comfortable Clothing – For movement activities such as yoga and stretching exercises (No cost, should be comfortable and easy to move in).

Access to a Quiet, Comfortable Space – A place where students can sit quietly and focus, with enough room for some light movement (No cost).

Additional Supplies (Optional):
Small Stress Ball or Fidget Toy – To help with focus and relaxation during activities (Optional, Approx. $5).

Materials Provided by Teacher:
All course curriculum, worksheets, and activity guides will be provided digitally. These materials will be shared through Outschool’s platform or via email for easy access. There are no additional fees for these materials.

Students will be able to complete all class activities with the basic supplies listed above, and I will guide them through any necessary steps during each session.

With over 20 years of experience in education, leadership, and business, I bring a deep passion for helping students thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. I have taught a wide range of subjects, including Financial Management, Entrepreneurship, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and Mindfulness in Education. My background includes working with students of various age groups, from young children to adults, and in both classroom and workshop settings.

I hold a Master’s in Education, I am a Licensed Teacher and a certified Mindfulness Educator, trained specifically in how mindfulness practices can benefit both students and educators. This certification allows me to integrate mindfulness techniques into my teaching, providing students with tools to improve focus, manage stress, and cultivate self-awareness. I’ve also had the opportunity to lead workshops for teachers, empowering them with the skills to incorporate SEL and mindfulness into their classrooms.

In addition to my formal training, I have spent many years working directly with children, ranging from elementary school students to teenagers. I have worked in after-school programs, summer camps, and one-on-one tutoring sessions, tailoring my approach to meet the individual needs of each student. I find great joy in creating engaging, interactive lessons that encourage curiosity, creativity, and emotional growth.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child is unique and capable of achieving their full potential when supported in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment. I focus on building strong relationships, fostering open communication, and encouraging self-expression and personal growth.

I am also a parent to four boys and enjoy spending time with them and our two playful dogs, which helps me connect with the children I teach on a personal level. My experiences as a mother further shape my understanding of how to support children’s emotional needs and create a nurturing, welcoming space for learning.

I am excited to bring my expertise and passion for mindfulness and emotional intelligence to your child’s learning journey, and I look forward to guiding them in building resilience, focus, and self-confidence!
