Students will be able to apply the following skills:

Mapping Skills, Latitude and Longitude, Interpreting Data Maps
Evaluating and interpreting world Standard of Living data
Sourcing - Evaluating sources for credibility and choosing strong evidence
Writing to prove a point, using evidence from a variety of source types (primary and secondary sources,  timelines, maps, images, 
        diaries, text entries, etc.) in a structured format

 Certified as a Social Studies Teacher in my state,  I have taught Social Studies (including World Geography) for over 18 years, primarily at the Middle School level.  My classes have had lots of fun and engagement with World Geography, delving into the wonders of 'oh so slightly' familiar cultures, as well as cultures that are dramatically different from the West.   Students sparkle when engaging in special projects, conversations, Kahoot Challenges, interactive games and other teaching practices designed to help our students  enjoy becoming a master of their own learning. Master's Degree (Public Policy), Bachelor's Degree (History), Teaching Certificate (State of Maryland) :  Social Studies, History, Middle School Language Arts, 30 credits beyond Master's Degree.  I am grateful to all my students, both in traditional classrooms and on line, for all that they teach me every day.

Homework assignments are provided following each class.  Students may begin homework in class as time allows.  The purpose of homework  is to give students an opportunity to apply the skills targeted in each class.  Typically, assignments will require up to 30 minutes to complete.  Homework products will include some format options, but will always include narrative work.  Some alternatives to narrative assignments could include artwork and data manipulation or display.

The teacher will provide a written response to each student product.  This response will highlight strengths of student work  and suggestions for improvements.  My guidance  philosophy is that all human work has strengths.  It is important to celebrate these strengths as part of learning.  At the same time, we all have opportunities to improve.  A teacher's role is to help students recognize both, helping them grow toward becoming independent learners.
