Advanced Math Problem Solving With Multi-Step Word Problems, Grades 4-6

Word problems are based on 5th grade standards. This class is a good fit for learners in grades 4th-6th.
Each week, students will work together to solve word problems of varying difficulty.  Our focus will be on determining how to solve using the CUBES problem-solving strategy. We will spend most of our time on each problem on key words, evaluating the steps to solving, and finding a solution.

On each word problem, students will have an opportunity to discuss how to solve it and I will facilitate the discussion. After the class has determined the steps to solve the problem, every student will then solve the problem on their own and send me their answer in chat. This class is ideal for 4th-6th graders. 

Word problems are based on 5th grade standards. Much of the focus is on money, measurement, fractions, and multiplication/division. Money problems can involve all 4 operations and whole numbers or decimals.

I will plan on doing 3-5 problems per work, depending on the class and the level of the difficulty of the word problems. 

There are no weekly topics as each week we solve a variety of word problems and I pick those problems based on student needs. 

I intentionally keep my classes smaller so that each student can get the attention they need and we can get more problems completed each week.
