수학 경로 레벨 5 - 기초 수학 수업(12-16세)

In this 13-week, foundational math class, students will have the opportunity to learn and practice specific math topics (please see the schedule below) in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We will use a digital whiteboard, conversation, and examples to utilize as many of our senses as possible to reach learners of all types. This class is created as a semester-long, full curriculum with students who are new to the topics in mind. However, students who need review or practice are always welcome as are homeschool students.  

Week 1: Introduction to the coordinate plane - Quadrants, x-axis, y-axis, ordered pairs
Week 2: Interpreting and plotting points in quadrant 1 (positive x and y)
Week 3: Number Patterns and rules - introduction and evaluation 
Week 4: Evaluating single variable expressions 
Week 5: Graphing number patterns and rules
Week 6: Ratios - What are they? What do they look like? How do we apply this knowledge?
Week 7: Rates - Introduction and application 
Week 8: Percentages - What are they? How do I use them? 
Week 9: What is an exponent? - How do we write them? How do we read them? how do we solve them?
Week 10: Order of Operations - PEMDAS - parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction
Week 11: Introduction to negative numbers using a number line
Week 12: Comparing Real Numbers
Week 13: Introduction to and comparison of absolute value

In each class, students will have the opportunity to practice, ask questions, and solidify their understanding of key concepts. Homework will be assigned each week to encourage students to review what was learned in that week's class. If students have questions between classes, I would encourage them to post in our classroom and I will respond.  

I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn.

While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling.
