What will be taught: If the student completed the introduction to decimals and have seen the relationship between the decimal form and the fraction of a number. The student will be successful in this area and ready to start the first fundamental operation association with decimals, adding decimals. Students will learn when adding decimals, the student will make sure they are adding tenths to tenths, hundredths to hundredths and so on. The learn how to line up the decimal points in a vertical column. Then add the numbers as you would add whole numbers. Students will also learn how to add mixed decimals, learning how to place the addends in vertical columns so that the decimal points are lined up one below the other. Students will learn word problems requiring the addition of decimals. How will the lesson be taught: Slides, white board, document cam, discussion, student engagement. Required introduction to decimals will help the student for this lesson. Worksheets will be provided with answer key for practice.

Students will learn adding decimals is similar to adding whole numbers. Students learn the decimal point separates the whole number portion of the number from the fractional part. Students learn to add decimal numbers, placing the decimal in vertical column with the decimal points directly underneath each other. Parental guidance is helpful in case of technical difficulty or help for logging on to the zoom. Students do not need any expensive toys, furnishings or other items. They do need well designed space that is safe for the student to do activities/projects. Parental guidance is necessary incase student needs help with an activity with guidance. Such as gluing, cutting with scissors etc. There are no third party websites that will be used for each week for the lessons or signing in for accounts.
