In this 1 hour class, I will introduce your student to the math they would encounter for the first time if they enrolled in a first year calculus course (such as AP Calculus or Calculus 1).  I won't cover the entire curriculum of a first year calculus course in this class.  Instead, I will introduce your student to a handful of mathematical rules (involving differentiation and integration) that they would repeatedly use across different topics in a first-year calculus course.  My goal is to equip your student with a toolbox of mathematical rules so that they have a solid foundation for learning calculus.  During class, I will use a whiteboard within Zoom to draw formulas and work though problems one step at a time.  At various points during class, I will encourage participation by asking the students in class a question about an upcoming step in a problem.  I will encourage students who think they know the answer to respond to my question by sending me a direct message in Zoom.  During the last 5 to 10 minutes of class, I will share a link to an optional quiz in a Google Form.  This quiz will contain practice problems similar to the problems we solved in class.  Your student will receive immediate feedback to each answer they submit while completing the quiz.  The quiz will be open until the end of the third full day following class.
