The type and amount of homework assigned will depend on the specific needs and goals of the learners and how many learners are enrolled. --Homework assignments may include reading and analyzing texts, completing comprehension questions, vocabulary exercises, and writing responses to texts. --Mini projects assigned either individually or as a group. If learners work in groups, they will be given clear instructions and guidelines for collaboration. --The time required to complete homework assignments will depend on the nature and complexity of the assignment. Generally, learners should expect to spend 30 minutes to one (1) hour on homework assignments per class session. --Depending on the reading level and pace of the class, learners will be expected to read during the week. This course is designed to help learners improve their reading comprehension skills. Learners will cover various strategies to improve their ability to understand and interpret different types of fiction and non-fiction texts. Through interactive exercises, group discussions, and practical application, learners will develop a love for reading and gain confidence in their abilities. Course Outline: Week 1: Introduction to Reading Comprehension Weeks 2-3: Strategies for Understanding Fiction Weeks 4-5: Strategies for Understanding Non-Fiction Weeks 6-7: Summarizing and Analyzing Texts Week 8: Putting it All Together Reading Selections: Fiction: "Josephine" by Anonymous | "I Saw What I Saw" by Judie Angell | "A Game of Catch" by Richard Wilbur Nonfiction: "Thirst" by Kristin Lewis | "Should Kids Play Football" by Jennifer Shitz | "The Dust Bowl" by Alex Porter and Kristin Lewis Course Structure: The course will be taught over eight (8) weeks, with each week or two covering a specific topic related to reading comprehension. Interaction: Learners will have ample opportunities to interact with the instructor and their peers during the course. Required Experience/Knowledge: No prior experience or knowledge is required to take this course. Learners, however, should come to each session prepared and be willing to actively participate in class discussions and exercises. It is recommended, however, that a notebook and writing utensil be handy for each session so learners can record thoughts, questions, or observations.
