수업 소개
Have you ever seen someone’s realistic drawing and thought, “HOW did they do that?” You may think that some people are natural artists and others aren’t, but even those gifted with a nature talent will drastically improve their skills by understanding the fundamentals of their subject matter, and by learning simple tricks about how art behaves. That means that anyone can improve by learning these things too. This is a confidence building class for your nature and art lovers. In this one time class learners will be given some simple tricks to improve the proportions, artistic quality and accuracy of their work. They will learn to follow the step-by-step process to draw more realistic birds, even if they have no art experience. All these little birders need to improve their bird drawings is the ability to pay attention, follow instructions, and a willingness to give it a try. This is a skill that can grow with the youngest learners. This class is also available for ages 9-12. The first half of the class we will be learning a few simple but transformational tools that are like keys to unlock the students ability to draw birds realistically again and again without teacher guidance. We will quickly discuss the importance of observation and learn to see basic shapes in our reference photos. In the second part of the class, I will lead the students in a directed drawing of a bird, using the techniques and tools that we discussed in the first portion of the class. If there is time left, students are welcome to add color to their birds. The aim is that by the end of this class, students feel confident enough to go away and apply what they’ve learned to continue to draw expressive, realistic birds on their own. This is the perfect lesson for nature lovers, nature journalers, and art lovers alike. We will draw simple, but realistic birds from photos as practice for longer drawings, or for documenting birds from life for nature journaling. PLEASE NOTE: I have had some feedback from parents saying that they cannot find the files that are supposed to be available after enrollment. Outschool has told me that you can find these by clicking a button that prompts you to view the class as the parent, not the student. If you cannot find them, you can message me, but they are also not necessary to have printed out for class. Students will be able to follow along with the class without the references printed. They are for your convenience only.

수업 자료
Scrap paper for practice drawing Printed color references (can be black and white) Paper for bird drawings- I recommend something heavier than printer paper so that final drawings will not be flimsy, and no larger than 5x7 or 8x10. Students have more success in practice when forced to draw within a more manageable area. If student is really proud of work it might be disappointing to have done it on printer paper, but anything without lines is acceptable. If students already have an art or nature journal they are welcome to use it. Pencil- this can be a drawing pencil, or a regular pencil. Mechanical pencils are fine, but they can be difficult to erase because they indent the paper. Sharpener Eraser Optional: clip board

Each class I will share a page from my non-fiction children's book "Little Birder: A Field Guide to Birds of the Alphabet." It is not required that they have this book.

Hello! My name is Jessalyn Claire and I am so thankful for Outschool.
NOTE: Please favorite and follow my profile so you will be notified as new classes are scheduled, and please feel free to reach out with inquiries. It's my desire to be able to offer more than I offer currently, so expect to see more opportunities for your student to learn with me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a lifelong artist and more recently, the author and illustrator of an award winning children's book called Little Birder. It is a non-fiction alphabet book about birds.
I am inspired by the curiosity that comes naturally to children which I have to work diligently to cultivate as an adult. I wanted to create a beautiful resource that encourages children to be curious and observe the world around them. (Ask for information.)
The best thing about being an artist is that art can go hand in hand with just about any topic. Many of my classes will involve nature and observation. Character building skills like curiosity, observation, expressing emotions through art are just some of the skills that are incorporated into my art lessons.
I also like to help kids who are ready to begin mastering art and observation skills gain confidence in themselves through teaching methods that improve the results of their art.
I help kids realize anyone can be an artist and help improve their skills with a few “tricks.” Tricks like anatomy and proportions, seeing negative space, and recognizing underlying shapes. I love watching as kids improve drastically in just one lesson, and gain the confidence in their skill that will become the foundations of their creativity through art.
My art classes are fun, but they're best for students who are passionate about improving their art skills.
