Lesson 2
ASL Vocabulary Building

Lesson 3
Story Topic Submission and Pathological vs. Cultural Perspectives
◦ Students submit their chosen story topics for approval and discussion. ◦ Exploration of the difference between pathological and cultural perspectives in storytelling.
Lesson 4
Glossing Review and Sign Space
◦ Review of glossing techniques for accurate transcription of ASL storytelling. ◦ Understanding sign space and its importance in conveying meaning and narrative flow.
 Week 3
Lesson 5
Translating vs. Interpreting
◦ Understanding the differences between translating a story and interpreting its meaning in ASL. ◦ Practice exercises focusing on accurately conveying the narrative intent.
Lesson 6
Receptive Practice
◦ Activities to improve students' ability to understand and interpret ASL storytelling. ◦ ASL exercises with various storytellers to enhance receptive skills.

Lesson 7
States and Role Shifting
◦ Introduction to portraying states (emotional, physical, mental) in ASL storytelling. ◦ Practice role shifting to differentiate characters and perspectives in stories.

Basic Storytelling Techniques and Vocabulary List #2
◦ Exploration of basic storytelling techniques in ASL. ◦ Introduction to Vocabulary List #2 focusing on narrative and descriptive signs.

Narrating Experiences
◦ Techniques for narrating personal experiences effectively in ASL. ◦ Sharing and discussing personal stories in ASL within small groups.

Conversation Practice and Integration

  • Students will be able to confidently narrate a simple story in American Sign Language (ASL), incorporating basic ASL grammar, vocabulary, and expressive techniques.

세부 내용: Homework will serve as a crucial extension of classroom learning, reinforcing receptive and expressive skills, while also fostering a deeper understanding of Deaf Culture and history. Assignments, conducted on platforms such as EdPuzzle and Nearpod, not only contribute to individual skill development but also serve to prepare learners for upcoming class sessions.
Assessment
빈도: 1-2 throughout the class
세부 내용: Progress will be assessed through the following: • Comprehensive Quiz: This is a comprehension quiz covering the topics that were taught. The quiz will test your ability to understand what is being signed to you. • Expressive Test: You will prepare your own story using the vocabulary and grammar structures learned in class. More instructions will be given in class.
Prerequisite: ASL for Beginners and ASL part 1-3 are required.

During this 8-week class, your learner will use the app Padlet, Nearpod, and Signing Savvy dictionary to complete homework & practice their ASL skills. 

Padlet and Signing Savvy does not require the learners to set up an account.

Signing Savvy is a free ASL dictionary. Account sign-up is not necessary for usage.

Seesaw is a required additional resource for this class. 
An online ASL Dictionary (https://www.signingsavvy.com) is required. The dictionary is a free resource. In addition, the students will need a separate device to play Kahoot. If using a computer the student will only need to be able to open another tab or split their screen.
