It's amazing how much algebra we do on a regular basis without even knowing it!  In this 3-week class, students will build up their algebraic foundation using teacher-led examples, games and puzzles.  

Instruction will be delivered synchronously via power point demonstrations. Students will be encouraged to participate during the lesson either using their microphones or the chat box- this will allow me the opportunity to provide feedback and any additional supports that may be needed.  Class sizes will also be kept small (no more than 8 learners) in order to provide a more personalized experience. 

Using a standard Pre-Algebra textbook, along with numerous resources I have used in my 25 years of teaching, I will provide lessons on the following topics:

Class 1:  Adding and Subtracting Integers
Class 2:  Multiplying and Dividing Integers
Class 3:  Order of Operations
Class 4:  Solving One-Step Equations 
Class 5:  Solving Two-Step Equations 
Class 6:  Using the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of a side of a right triangle
Class 7:  Measures of Central Tendency
Class 8:  Creating and Interpreting Box Plots
Class 9:  Simple Probability
Class 10: Adding and Subtracting Polynomials
Class 11: Multiplying Polynomials Using the Distributive Property
Class 12: Dividing Polynomials by Monomials

This course would be ideal for students who are taking (or about to take) a Pre-Algebra course or have a basic knowledge of whole number operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) as well as solving simple equations.  


I will meet live with students 4 times a week to provide the instruction, model examples, provide practice for students, and answer any questions.

If, at any time, an emergency causes me to miss a live session class, notification will be sent via Outschool messages.  The lesson will be videotaped, and I will provide students with the link in order to watch the lesson on their own.  An alternative will also be to provide a “make up” meeting at another time.

*If this class does not reach the minimum of 3 learners I may need to cancel.  HOWEVER, I do have a 12-week self-paced version for this course, covering the same material (Hitting the Highlights- Pre-Algebra) that I will recommend and send the link upon cancelling.
