This is a fun, interactive introductory class designed to get kids talking about books! The participants should come prepared to talk a little bit about a specific book they love and tell us why. We'll discuss different genres, styles of writing, and formats. Kids will get to hear book recommendations from other kids! Who knows? They just might be introduced to a new book they will love. This introductory session will be held from 7-8 pm on Monday, 10/14/24. We may read bits of The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl in this section and students will share about their own favorite books. From here, I plan to form a book club, where we can explore The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl in more detail, discuss thoughts and ideas with others, and learn from one another in the process. This is designed to be an engaging learning experience and we welcome all types of learners. The goal is to get kids reading (and loving it), promote critical thinking, and explore different perspectives!

The goal is for students to think about what books they love and why - and to be introduced to some other types of books via student recommendations! We'll also talk about the book club, which will run from 7-8 pm on Monday evenings (10/21 -12/9/24).

I don’t expect there to be parental concerns. However, I would add that I won’t know what books students will want to recommend as their favorites in the introductory session on 10/14/24. Parents are more than welcome to pre-read The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl prior to signing their child up for the book club.
