This hands-on class explores the a decomposition chemical reaction using the electrolysis of water. Learners will be able to see with their own eyes liquid water splitting in to hydrogen and oxygen gasses. Learners will interact initially with me via conversation about the subject. This will help gauge the student's current level of understanding. Then based on this conversation I will help the student better understand and hopefully master the subject. They will learn the basics of...
Learners learn the methods of prediction, testing, recording results, and improvement. Learners will be able to use hands-on activity using everyday items to create a fun and exciting experiment.
I am a middle school and high school math and science teacher with nine years of experience. Additionally, I am a homeschooling dad of 12+years who has four kids that are four different types of learners. I have the privilege to teach many subject areas, but chemistry is my favorite as it applies to all other areas of science. My opinion is that if a student understands major chemical concepts, other sciences become more clear. I hold a MS and BS in the natural sciences.

Choose ONE of the following sets: - two alligator clipped wires (see link: https://tinyurl.com/y82qgvqj) - two copper wires with ends exposed - two 9-volt terminal (see this link https://tinyurl.com/y73jv33u) Optional: 2- small test tubes. Used to collect the gasses. Here is an example link: https://tinyurl.com/ya79c4sq
If learners wish to complete the experiment with me, they are welcome to do so! See the supply list for all items necessary for this class.
I am enthusiastic about helping students become life long learners! My favorite question from students is: "what would happen if?" Kids are naturally curious and my goal is to fuel curiosity via discussion and investigation with students. One...
