Students will create characters with an origin story that lets the other students know the specifics of each character in their group. These characters will form a team-up group with a set name (like the Avengers, the Defenders, etc.) and we will write short stories each week with a new villain to defeat. Each week, I create a new villain (or a student can ask to create the villain if desired) and everyone else will strategize how to fight the villain for that week. Any new student entering...
Students will strategize and invoke their creativity in order to come up with a story that makes sense. They will also learn how to work with other people in a setting that requires it.
With a BA in English, I have learned how to write creatively and academically. Movies and comic books are of high interest to me, and I love thinking up characters with powers. I have been teaching English on Outschool for a year, and tutored English for over twice as long. Alongside teaching English, I have also facilitated a discussion group, which is why I encourage open discussion with each class I teach; it enhances the overall class experience.
Students need Google Docs for this class
The first class includes the discussion of origin stories that already exist, and a YouTube video is shown to explain the "superhero Venn diagram." Comic books tend to have mature content, and some origin stories include traumatic events. Class is learner led, so students may write something graphic/mature.
