주당 수업 45 분 시간숙제
주당 1-2시간. Students will get more out of the class if they play the games themselves outside of class, but they may do so at their own pace. We will make time in class both for students who take an easy-going route and those who want to go as fast as possible, so long as they are playing and participating. There will be no specific requirements or assignments in this regard unless the students themselves set particular goals as a class.보고계신 지문은 자동 번역 되었습니다
수업 소개
In each week of this ongoing class, we will talk about and share anything and everything related to The Legend of Zelda, particularly Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom! This should be especially exciting with the release of the new game this May so I'm sure there will be plenty to discuss! The topics we go through will be largely student driven as this is a social club, but each class will have a combination of discussion time and gameplay/sharing time. We will have one central theme each week to start off and guide our conversation, alongside dedicated time for students to share things they recently discovered or did in the games, ask questions to help them sort through difficult challenges or puzzles, or discuss anything else they may like to about with respect to Zelda! We may occasionally even do more creative activities and challenges! ---Class Schedule of Starting Topics--- Week of May 28 - Favorite Locations Week of June 4 - Shrines, Divine Beasts, and Dungeons Week of June 11 - All About Dragons Week of June 18 - Comparing Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild So Far Week of June 25 - NO CLASS Week of July 2 - NO CLASS Week of July 9 - Towns and Villages Week of July 16 - Depths, Caves, and Sky Islands Week of July 23 - Sheikah and Zonai Week of July 30 - The Story and Lore of Tears of the Kingdom Given that this class is focused around Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, students are expected to have some level of familiarity with and/or access to the games. We will be happy to include first time players, fans of every Zelda game ever made, and everyone in between in our class! It should be noted that students who are familiar with other Zelda games are more than welcome to share their additional insight (and perhaps we could talk about such things in the future depending on class interest!), but the focus of this class will be very much on Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom specifically so that even the newest of Zelda fans can participate without difficulty. This is an ongoing class, so students can join in at any time! Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are both games that can be played exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. Breath of the Wild was released in 2017 and Tears of the Kingdom was released on May 12, 2023. These are offline, single-player games and so there will be no sharing of any online accounts or handles necessary for this class. Students are always welcome, but not required to bring their Switch to class to play and share. A Nintendo Switch and both games are required supplies for this class, though it is okay if a student does not immediately have Tears of the Kingdom as the game is brand new! I would simply recommend getting it sooner rather than later to get the most out of the class. The purpose of this class is of course to have fun by discussing a shared interest, but also to befriend like-minded students, share tips, tricks, and knowledge, and learn how to express ideas to others in a respectful, engaging, and constructive way. I am here to guide the discussion, ask questions, provide structure, and ensure everyone feels welcome and respected, but this is a social club and so learners will be encouraged to be very involved in it! The more different thoughts and opinions, theories, and friendly debates that we share, the more fun the class will be! Seeing different points of view will always make for better discussion and will help us appreciate Zelda even more! I hope to see you in Hyrule (or at least in class) soon! NOTE: This class is aimed at learners aged 13 and up. If your child is between the ages of 8 and 12, I have an alternate version of the class for younger students that you can find on my profile.
학습 목표
Students will increase their knowledge of and gain a deeper appreciation for The Legend of Zelda. They will become more adept at the games and discover more about them. They will develop discussion skills, learning to express their own opinions well while also learning to listen and engage respectfully with the opinions of others.

학부모 가이드
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are games that are rated E10 for "Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, and Use of Alcohol." There will be no potentially upsetting content used in this class beyond what is contained within the games themselves, in which players fight a variety of monsters and villains with swords, bows, and magic in a fantasy setting. Some monsters and scenarios may be frightening for some students, but if the games themselves are appropriate for your family, so too will this class be!
A Nintendo Switch, Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom (physical and digital copies are both available) will all be used for this class. Students will play primarily outside of class, but they are permitted to play in class as well and share what they are playing on each of their individual devices. However, online accounts are not required. These are offline, single player games without any need for accounts that can be shared. Of course, as per Outschool's policy, students should not share gaming handles regardless.

Hello! My name is Jessica Hom (formerly Madeira) and I am thrilled to be teaching on Outschool!
I teach a variety of classes on Outschool, most of them involving learning through storytelling, whether it be approaching an academic topic like history through the perspective of popular stories like Star Wars, discussing novels or movies in social clubs or book clubs, or just straightforward writing and creative writing classes. I always enjoy a more interdisciplinary approach, integrating things like history, literature, philosophy, and geography into classes. I believe that stories play an integral role in helping young people understand themselves and the world around them - and then how to express that to others!
In terms of credentials, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in History, completed alongside a nearly 100 page thesis in Japanese history and a minor in Japanese language and literature. I also have a Master’s degree in Theology with a concentration in Ethics. Furthermore, I have my CE in Social Studies Education from the State of NJ and have worked in various educational settings over years, both in schools and in other educational institutions like museums with children ranging in age from Pre-K to late high school. I have been teaching on Outschool since 2020 and have loved every minute of it. I have also simply always been a voracious reader and writer myself.
With regards to teaching itself, I believe in a very interactive, discussion-based, socratic style of education where every student has a voice and is given the chance to cooperatively process the information presented to them and express it and apply it in their own unique ways. Facts and figures are of course important, but education can and should incite wonder and inquiry in learners. History and fiction alike are deeply interconnected and ask us to look back, to look forward, and to look inward at our own lives.
As for myself, when I'm not teaching, you'll often find me studying or reading! I'm also a huge fan of film and animation, anime especially. I draw now and again, particularly character art for the fantasy novel I am in the (very) slow process of writing. I'm also happily the mother of a one year old little boy!
I hope to see you in class!
