In this class students will learn... A.) what fractions are B.) how fractions can be used to understand relative values C.) how to use fractions to solve problems (multiply and dividing in word problems) D.) how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions To do so, all of our problems will be rooted in pokemon battles and discussion. For example, instead of simply asking students to multiple 1/2 by 1/3, I might ask a student to find how much a pokemon's special defense or health stat will change when it is hit with a specific attack. Therefore, most of the work is contextual to pokemon. We will use the classic "I do, we do, you do" progression, and every exercise will add to a class learning goal where students will cooperatively earn badges for engaging with the material, thus keeping the atmosphere engaging and exciting.

In this series of lessons, students will build their ideal pokemon teams and learn a bit about how fractions can be used to understand the progress in a battle. i.e "Charizard's health is down to this level, will he be able to withstand two more Ice Beams from his opponent?"
