(5/22 - IN PROCESS OF REVISION) This class uses worksheets, hands on practice, and catchy songs to cover all eight parts of speech - nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, interjections, prepositions - and several subtypes. One of the most important reasons I am uniquely qualified to teach this class is that I am not naturally good at grammar. More specifically, over almost 20 years of formal education (Kindergarten - Masters Level), I worked to understand and master the use of parts of speech, literary elements, and sentence construction. My grammar journey enables me to create an informative, supportive, and accessible curriculum for students. The structure of this class is relaxed, yet no "fluff" materials are used. Meaningful worksheets and activities enable students to quickly master essential topics. Mastery inspires confidence, and confident students are engaged, self-motivated, and skilled. This class follows best practice guidelines for the sequential teaching order of grammar. In other words, when teachers pay attention to the skills required at each juncture, learning grammar is easier, faster, and more effective. I use the teaching order: Nouns- Common,Proper,Collective,Abstract,Plural & Irregular Plural. Verbs- Linking, Helping, Past, Present & Future Tense. Adjectives- Superlative & Comparative. Adverbs. Pronouns- Personal , Relative, Reflexive, Intensive, Demonstrative, Interrogative & Indefinite The differentiated curriculum is designed to support learners of various levels. Students who need a refresher or additional encouragement learning the parts of speech will benefit from these lessons. Also, gifted students or students preparing for the next level will do well. Support materials, such as worksheets, are presented at level, slightly below, and slightly above. Each class follows a similar outline but teaches a new topic. This structure supports the range of students who sign up for 1 week, 10 weeks, or somewhere in the middle. I begin class by introducing our area of focus. Then, we jump right into our lesson using worksheets to guide us. Occasionally we will listen to educational songs that aid comprehension, enjoyment, and retention. We review the lyrics and find target parts of speech for six songs. Finally, when we wrap up students leave with an understanding of the target part of speech, experience using the target part of speech, and informative worksheets to keep. I encourage students to ask questions and actively participate in their learning experience; thus, I ask students to keep on their audio and camera throughout the class. If your child needs other accommodations, please do not hesitate to let me know. PLEASE NOTE... *I do teach classes with the minimum attendance. *Typically I prepare more materials than I expect to use - this allows me to satisfy unanticipated student needs and time hiccups. *I wait in an empty classroom for 5 minutes before leaving (unless previous arrangements are made). *I can provide proof of college and graduate degrees for those wishing to obtain Homeschool credit. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your education journey!
